The refurbished Punta Gorda Town Hall and Administration building can accommodate a total of 23 Town Council Staff, including 6 from the municipal traffic department. The facility offers a better working environment for staff and has improve its services to 5,750 residents.

Prior to the implementation of the BMDP in Punta Gorda, the town hall’s roof was dilapidated and leaked during rainy days. The entire building, including its doors and windows was in a much deteriorated condition resulting in high maintenance costs to the Punta Gorda Town Council.

The dire condition of the street on the north side of the Belmopan bus terminal affected street users .This street serves as the main entry point for buses and general traffic, which exacerbated the congestion in the area during the peak hours of the morning rush.

Prior to implementation of the Belize Municipal Development Project (BMDP), financed by the World Bank, the street on the east side of the terminal was covered with potholes and was in a deteriorated condition resulting in great inconveniences for pedestrians and taxi drivers.

The paved street on the north side of the Belmopan Bus terminal has addressed health issues that normally affects street users during the dry and rainy seasons; it has improved the general aesthetics, access to businesses and attractiveness of the area to residents and visitors.

The implementation of the BMDP, satisfied a number of important objectives (1) alleviating the perennial traffic congestion problems faced in the bus terminal area (2) implementing proper traffic safety measures that can be monitored and enforced by the authorities.
