Hawk versus Snake

Red Tail Hawk engulfing the tail of a recent kill (I believe it was a western yellow-bellied racer snake). I watched this event this last weekend, as the hawk pounced on the snake in the tall grass, grabbing and pecking at it, then flew into a nearby tree where it proceeded to have its lunch. Every time it took a bite, it would close its eye creating the glossy look you see here (a behavior I have noticed in the past).

The tight foliage in the tree made for some tough shots, and the large dark area on top of this shot was from a large branch. Afterward, it took off after another snake (which got away) - seeing it from near 1000ft away.

Sunset, South Lake Tahoe. This was taken from 'Lakeview' along the main stretch in South Lake Tahoe, CA. Four ducks decided to take a swim into my frame just as I was exposing this shot. Canon Rebel, Fuji Velvia 100.

Sunrise from lake's edge, South Lake Tahoe. On a ski trip this last weekend I got up early to drive to a few locations near S. Lake Tahoe to find many of the roads still closed from the recent storms. I managed to speed back to this location to grab a few shots in the morning light.
