Watching a potential prey animal below, this image was made just before the owl dropped to make a strike. During the stoop, I lost the bird in the vegetation and was unable to see whether or not it was successful. San Luis Obispo Co., CA, USA.

Native to the SE USA. It's name comes from the days when farmers stored harvested ears of corn in cribs. These snakes came to feed on the rodents that were attracted to the corn crop.
