This is the podium in the Portland (ME) Public Library, made of books withdrawn from their collection. I'm here for a program on ebooks, so I thought this "alternate use" for old books was fitting.

I was in my hometown visiting family last week, and went into the Borders there to get something. I happened to walk past this display - my high school English teacher wrote a book. I bought one, and am looking forward to reading it. Way to go, Mr. Roth.

We're in the process of removing all the shelves from our reference area, so we can build new study rooms and put subject tables here. Since we're weeding as we go, shelves kind of get moved around at random to prepare for construction. Read more on my website.

I mostly read fiction, so they get two bookshelves (and this is after weeding 1/4 of the collection to donate to the library). The shelves came from craigslist - $100 for four of them, which I stained myself. More information on my website.
