I selected this shot for its almost painted background effect. The sun was fairly low and enhancing the feathers of the robin and one of the very few shots with no obstruction from branches.

The miscanthus has spectacularly flowered this year. Normally it grows to about 2 metres with a couple of shoots producing seeds but never like this. It is nearer 3 metres this year too.

This is one frame taken from video mode on the Sony DSC-H2. I have never seen this effect before.

Supposed to be nocturnal with large ears and eyes but suddenly appeared from the rockery onto the garden path during the afternoon and was unable to resist the spilt sunflower hearts.

This is taken using the twilight mode setting. What is surprising is that the whole moon can be seen! This is called earthshine when light is reflected from the earth.

I tried lots of settings on the camera and this shot is one of the most satisfying. It was achieved using the Twilight mode of the DSC-H2. After this it got more and more difficult to focus on the darkened moon.

The bright moon crater in the centre of the photo. Not only can you see the shadow cast inside the crater but I took it without a tripod using the action mode of my Sony DSC-H2 and a tele conversion lens DH1758 at full zoom.

partial lunar eclipse

This was a spectacular partial lunar eclipse. The moon rose with the eclipse phase already begun. At the time of maximum eclipse it appeared from behind and below the branches of the huge oak tree and glowed orange in the dark sky above the apple tree.
