This buddha statue sits in the aquarium of my brother - he doesn't actually have fish in there just yet, he got the water tested several times and was told yet again to wait until it's absolutely totally completely safe for fish.

This turtle was standing very, very still. So focusing was trivial, and I got to make sure that no annoying leaves were in the way. Completely unlike with that bird a while ago, the last time we were there.

I replaced my Panasonic Leica 45mm f/2.8 macro with the new Olympus 60mm f/2.8 macro, because that removes a duplicate focal distance from my lens bag (I also have the Olympus 45mm f/1.8). Couldn't resist going out and trying out the new lens.

This miniature rose thingy was shot on the Münsterplattform in Bern, Switzerland. As a bokeh test, too. The bokeh at f/4 is even more pleasing than the one at f/11, I particularly like the way the backlit green leaves below the blossom fade into a soft unsharpness.

They say that the first 10000 pictures are your worst - so naturally, I tried to make picture number 10000 a good one.

Well, it wasn't. The wind was strong enough to move this butterfly back and forth, and number 10000 was all out of focus.

Number 9999 wasn't, though, and that's this one. So I'll just pretend it's number 10000 instead, OK?

Ants

Ants with a very shallow depth of field. Glad I got their eyes in one of a gazillion attempts - on some of them, there weren't even any ants at all.

On the other hand, the contrast is not perfect at all, I should try getting one with a green backdrop or something, to make the ant(s) stand out and not disappear like in this picture.

We had a spider sitting in our living room (near the ceiling) for a while, and my wife had me remove it. I couldn't resist shooting a macro of it before doing so.

This was the first time my wife noticed the MAL-1 macro arm light, and had to giggle. I think it's very handy and awesome though :)

I don't know what kind of flower this is, but it appears to bloom rather early in the year.

I had a wider shot from this point of view, too, but there was a house standing in the background that was much too prominent. So I zoomed in a bit. It's still a very wide angle at 20mm eq.

Another butterfly I don't know, but what I do know is that I really like the bokeh generated by the light coming through the leaves in the background.

Made some slight edits for getting some more wing structure out of the RAW file, I think it was worth it.

I must admit that I don't know what kind of butterfly exactly this is, but it's one of those that I photographed at the Papillorama this weekend. I'll ready a few more for Flickr soon, but I think this one might be my favorite shot from the day.

I think I'll bring a tripod next time. There are quite some static butterflies that could easily be exposed longer, for less quality loss from higher ISO settings.

Gee, those beasts are fast! What you see here is a 100% crop (and thus quite some noise, relatively speaking), couldn't get closer with my little boy standing next to me and wanting to help with the photograph - and with standing on the ants I was trying to shoot.

The Leica macro allows 1:1 macros with the micro four thirds sensor, that's an image diagonal of just 22.5mm (1:2 equivalent) and a working distance of 15cm, I was quite a bit further away here - EXIF says it was 25cm. So with some practice, I should get closer shots and thus better quality.

A trip to the Papiliorama in Kerzers, Switzerland, brought plenty of opportunities to shoot those splendid little itsy bitsy tiny animals. A few of the shots I actually liked - and more so than the ones from the last time I was there. Glad to see this, actually.

This particular butterfly was flying around this blossom, and when I actually caught him from the side like this I was rather happy. The focus is a sliver behind the eyes, but I think it works anyway.

I like the leaf of grass here, that guides the eye towards the butterfly and provides some foothold among all the negative space that surrounds the insect.

This one is my favorite shot from the day. Such splendid bokeh, and the head with the eyes is as sharp as it gets.

I actually stamped out some insects that were messing up the background with black dots :P Don't tell anybody!

This berry was shot on the Münsterplattform in Bern, Switzerland. As a bokeh test, too. Interesting how the seven aperture blades are rather straight and the bokeh discs have seven corners at f/11.

This is The Dragon Guarding The Hallway - another dragon, this time a master one (thus red), that was even harder to kill for the heroes than the non-master one that went before him.

This is The Dragon Guarding The Door - a shadow dragon that proved to be *very* hard to kill for the heroes.

Macro of an Ant, Remastered

Did some selective sharpening of my previous ant shot. Looks a bit better now, but it's still a 100% crop (so roughly 80% of the image cropped away) and I still want to get a better shot some time.

It's got desktop size now, which is a bonus I think. If you don't think so, apologies for the double post to those awesome groups.
