Inreased runoff water - due to climate change - from large glaciers like the Khumbu Glacier above this river is contributing to severe Monsoon floods in the Terai of Nepal, northeastern India and Bangladesh. This year's floods were very severe, displacing some 30-40 million people and causing thousands of deaths due to polluted water supplies.
