"Psychedelic" Jake ...painted with sumi black and orange inks...the traditional Japanese sumi combo of black/orange tints gives you an entire tonal range to play with.

The original "exploded view" design model sheet for The Masked Karimbah from Kid Robot. Initially, we designed the figure set to include a number of accessories-- two dog heads (with removable rubber tongues), a real metal bell, three Karimbah heads, and three variant arms. Once priced out, it was deemed too expensive. The final has 3-point articulation and one accessory-- the giant fork. And the real metal bell. We concession we didn't make was in the size of the models-- the dog is the size of an actual dog standing about 12" tall.

Colorway model sheet for The Masked Karimbah vinyl toy from Kid Robot. This was a 2-sided guide for the factory. I imagined the figure set from a total of 6 angles, including top and bottom. Each color corresponded to a paintable Pantone number.

Rinzen's exclusive type design for TOTAL THB. The book is a long way from being finished, but this is our idea of an other-worldly alternate to our Latin-based alphabet.

The cover artwork I printed on acetate, to make a slipcover over the presentation packet, which I bound. It made a nice magazine-sized book. I made 2 or 3 of these. One for me, one for Bob Shreck, one for Paul Levitz.

BATMAN YEAR 100

I had a sticker on a tag on a piece of luggage which I carefully cut off and saved for a year or two, excited about the shape and random design of the UPC code and old OCA lettering. I glued it into a sketchbook. When it came time to pitch Batman Year 100 to DC Comics, I carefully cut the tag back out and placed my own Batman logo into the tag's design.

There was a large prominent "P" in the center of the design and also a "P&DC" at the bottom. The "00" at the bottom of the UPC was also relevant, since it was the year in which we began seriously discussing the project.

The artwork for the cover of the pitch presentation package. It was a full story treatment written in 12 pt., which came to roughly 50 pages and told the complete story as I had envisioned it at the time--along with some sample artwork for costume and tech design ideas. The execs at DC requested I submit a full story treatment, given the size and scope of the project.
