Every Little Gasket Is Important

Counselman Collection posted a photo:

Finishing up the control-line model airplanes for the grandchildren, I was trying to start a couple of my new Cox .049 cubic inch engines for break-in, with some old fuel and it was not working very well, so I ordered new fresh fuel to try. The specially blended fuel for the glow plug reed engines is mostly a very pure castor oil and 25% nitro methane for the kick. When they fire off and you tweak the needle valve down, those little props scream up to 18,000 RPM and will do seriously damage to your hands if you are not careful. They are so loud when they run you can hear them for miles when they go up in the air. After I got the new ones all started I dug this old 35-year-old model and engine out of the attic, but it was all gummed up inside so I performed a complete overhaul. I added a new 6-inch diameter wood prop with a 3-inch pitch and now it is screaming just like the new engines. This old plane and engine already had about fifty flights under its belt, and it is ready to go again. Kids play video games, but there is nothing like getting the real thing in your hands controlling it all by yourself, after grandpa starts it.

Considered part of the Midwestern United States of America, as you travel through the flatlands of northern Ohio, you find these sleepy little peaceful towns; Small Town USA. This one was photographed in early spring before the leaves on the trees started sprouting. No stop lights, just a few stop signs, with very little traffic most of the time. Waiting a whole minute on cars before turning the corner is considered a traffic nightmare here. John Mellencamp probably said it best in his lyrics; Well I was born in a small town, And I live in a small town; But I've seen it all in a small town, and Had myself a ball in a small town.
