Foggy road in San Francisco

I live in Oakland, and when I left there the other day to visit my in-laws in San Francisco it was a lovely 75 degrees and sunny. An hour later, we're driving along Skyline Blvd. near the famed Olympic Club and this was the scene. Incredibly thick fog and howling wind. Crazy how vastly different the weather is in SF from the rest of the Bay Area.

I've been listening to the Jayhawks a lot recently and it reminded me that I took a few photos of them when they played at Slim's in San Francisco in late 2011. Great show, and I was lucky to be pretty close to the stage. Too bad Slim's has these giant poles right in front to block the view! Not bad for 1/6 of a second exposure hand held!

I ran into this guy at the Apple Store in Palo Alto, and was amazed that this was, as he put it, his walking-around camera. Had it been a digital version it would have been one thing, but it is a film camera. I probably took more photos of him with his RZ67 then he'd taken all day.

I walked around the corner from my house and came across this lovely chair sitting in the middle of the sidewalk. I couldn't imagine why it had been abandoned and was almost going to sit on it when I noticed something was amiss with the front right leg. Just in time, as I'm sure I would have had a quick and painful trip to the sidewalk.

I met up with a friend at this cafe in Richmond. I'd heard about for a couple of years but never found my way up to that part of the Bay Area. It was worth the trip. The first thing you see when you walk in is this gorgeous roasting machine. The second thing you notice is the smell. Especially when they are roasting the beans. It is overpoweringly wonderful. And their coffee is great.

Continuing my fascination with Hipstamatic, I got out my iPhone and started photographing as the guys loading up the roasting machine.

This and the following garage are on the alley-like street behind the Peet's Coffee that I frequent. They are separated by two yards. Both of these garages were presumably graffitied at one point in time and then the graffiti was painted over. They've been that way for at least a year. I'm fascinated by them.

I realized recently that this is a view that won't be around much longer as the opening of the new Eastern span of the Bay Bridge looms in October.

I've always loved driving on this side, and the metal grid structure is quite beautiful, even more so with the Hipstamatic factor added in. I'll miss it once it's torn down.

I saw this tree inside the Elks Club Lodge in downtown Alameda, and it was almost as if it was on a stage. The curtain backdrop behind it made for quite the visual spectacle.

This is City Hall in Alameda, California. All the lights are white LED, and it is quite the site.

Double rainbow over Berkeley

There was a quick but significant rain shower this afternoon and suddenly this vivid double rainbow appeared over the hills behind the University or California at Berkeley campus. Within two minutes I saw half a dozen people taking pictures along this same street.
