It's very hard to take action photos with a Leica when you don’t have anyone modeling you.

Here I just stood on the sidewalk, prefocused the camera, let it rest on my neckstrap, and waiting as cyclists, on their daily commute, passed by.

Obviously shooting from the hip, nothing is straight, most of the other adjustments are to give the image a classic feel.

I stopped by the Van Gogh museum area where I moped a few years before to lament the theft of my laptop. I then realized this would be a great place to take a reflection photograph. To shoot a landscape photograph, I snapped three photographs horizontally at my widest angle, and was able to stitch two of them together.

Because I coulddn't get all three images to stitch, the subject ended up being in the exact center creating a balanced composition.

I wanted to contrast with the exact same photo (same camera, lens, position) taken at a different aspect ratio. Also it acted as my backup photograph should the stitch fail.

Photographically I tried to place the subject in the upper third. This placed more emphasis on the reflection. Remember too that the native sensor size of the LX1 a 16x9 aspect ratio.

I wanted to create a feel of the bike culture in Amsterdam, but still give a sense of the place.

Too bad I had been indoors earlier and forgot to reset my ISO. Photographically, I guess my hands were really, really shaky. :-)

Post-processing was designed to highlight the contrast and colors of the original image.

I went into the bicycle parking lot in city center to take this photo to give you an idea of how important cycling is to the Dutch.

Taken with my Pansonic LX1.

The photo is not an HDR, I just HDR compression to pull up shadow/highlight details.
