This was my morning treat! My husband spotted him under a bird feeder, and I ran for the camera. After he flew to a nearby tree, the owl was very compliant as I snapped pics. His feathers were still damp from recent rain. I have more poses and wish I could put them in comments ; ( I'll share them here and there over time.

I have a new wide angle lens which is going to be awesome when we travel to see the Grand Tetons this summer. There is not a big learning curve with this lens.

Waking up to a new FLICKR this morning--jury is still out. I don't feel at home yet.

I finally captured a male Ruby-throated Hummingbird. I'm still vying for a better capture, but I'll enjoy this for now. I like his little wayward feather on top.

I bought two new Gerber Daisies to replace some I lost over the winter. The other plant is a different orange but something ate all the flowers off that one. These are still safe so far. They are showing off the morning sun and I love seeing them from the kitchen window.

An organization I'm in had a fundraiser fashion show recently. Ayva was our little model. She created this pose herself when I was takng photos and I just loved it. The lighting was wrong and my settings were wrong, but I just had to work with the photo and come up with some kind of portrait. You can see the original photo in comments below. Isn't she the cutest?!

Such a handsome bird, especially the male with their shiny black. The females are pattered the same with a dark brown in place of the black.

We were sitting on a bench in a botanical garden when we noticed this Catbird on a nearby wall. He was fluffed and leaning on one foot. His poor situation had us fooled for a minute and then he sat up, fluffed his feathers straight and flew into the plantings. We guess he had a nest nearby and wanted to distract us.

Below are 2 more photos of a Catbird on my birdbath at home. You can see that their normal appearance looks all business!

Blackpoll Warbler

This is the other 'first sighting' warbler I saw on Sunday. It is such a thrill to see and capture a migrating species! They aren't the greatest photos. he was darting in and out of the oak trees, but at least I have these captures for a memory of a species I may never see again.

A new variety for me! I saw and captured shots of TWO warblers seen in my yard for the first time. I'll share the other tomorrow. It made for a great day! This Yellowthroat appeared to be alone and was busy eating insects (I think) in my rose bush.
