Train Graffiti was the best title I could think of other than "20 Flash Pops In One Picture"

Besides the small amount of city light pollution through the windows it was completely dark. My flashes were hissing and squealing after this shot. It took 4 tries to get a picture that I felt had the correct lighting. I started out at the far left of the frame with 2 Nikon SB25 flashes. I walked parallel with the train alternating the flashes as I walked. After that I walked back aiming the flashes up.

I adjusted the white balance on the camera to make the light behind the building show as white in the picture. I had to add the CTO gel because without it my flash would come out blue because of the white balance adjustment.

Lighting:
Nikon SB25 fired 3 times at full power with CTO gel.
An abundance of light pollution behind the building caused by sodium vapor streetlights and the city of Atlanta.

Tonight I went to do a little light painting at a few houses that I had previously visited during the day. To my surprise all 4 of them had been bulldozed. I was a little discouraged after that so I ventured down a different side street and found this orange jewel. It is a block away from a junkyard... it is almost home. This picture was a collaboration between Joseph and myself. He manned the camera and a spotlight while I hid behind the couch with a red gelled Canon 430EX. The red gel came out pink because I had to adjust my white balance to correct the lighting from a sodium vapor streetlight camera left.

Lighting:
15 million candle power spotlight on the lower setting aimed at the couch
Canon 430EX with a red gel fired 4 times at half power in several directions behind the couch.

Hallway lights

This is a combination of 2 shots. The first was a 30 second exposure. I hit the shutter and then ran down the hall ducking into a couple of rooms triggering flashes. The second shot I had Bill to assist me. I had him working the camera for an exposure closer to a minute long while I ran down the hallway triggering the flashes. It was difficult (impossible) to get the flash to show up in some rooms because of the light from the windows.

The owner came out while I was taking pictures to see what I was doing. He said lots of people stop to take pictures of it but he does not have any pictures of the place. I plan to go out there this weekend with a couple of prints to give him so hopefully I will have more information to post next week.

Update:
I delivered the prints and talked to the current owner, a gentleman named Telford. He said the building has been in his family since 1975 but the building itself is about 100 years old. It was originally run by Rufus Baird. In 1975 Edward "Bo" Phillips was working for Rufus and took over the business. Bo was Telford's stepfather and Bo passed away in 1996. The store has been closed since then.

I needed a truck to tow my car to all of the Formula Drift Pro Am events. My friend Ted hooked me up with his old F250. If you look hard enough you can see Mary riding shotgun.

Atlanta Skyline Viewed From Piedmont Park

I know I know another tourist shot of an over photographed location. There is a very good reason for this picture. Mary's Mom ( my soon to be mother-in-law) saw the Nashville night picture and said that she would love to have an Atlanta skyline picture. I made this picture for a Mothers Day present.

Mary and I stood in the same spot taking pictures for about 3 hours to get the shots that I needed. This pictures was made using a shot taken at sundown to get the colorful clouds and another shot from later in the night to make the buildings more than just a silhouette.

Camera settings for both shots:
Sundown shot was f11 ISO200 .02Sec
Night shot was f8 ISO200 5Sec

Graffiti Reflection

No Photoshop
This was a long exposure taken at dusk. There was very little light in this room. There was green fiberglass roofing over the windows and that is what caused all of the green highlights on the debris. The water was really gross with a nasty film of chemicals and pollen.

I did not use any lighting tricks for this picture. The light sources were a full moon and several sodium vapor streetlights. I adjusted the white balance to get rid of the yellow from the streetlights.

I need to thank Ima for the police escort to make this picture possible.

Last night was the first night that I had a chance to take any pictures of the Tornado Damage in Atlanta because I was sick all weekend. There was a row of sodium vapor streetlights lining the street to the camera left. I converted this picture from RAW and resized to post on Flickr and that is it. No Photoshop was necessary.

The Parthenon stands proudly as the centerpiece of Centennial Park, Nashville's premier urban park. The re-creation of the 42-foot statue Athena is the focus of the Parthenon just as it was in ancient Greece. The building and the Athena statue are both full-scale replicas of the Athenian originals.

Originally built for Tennessee's 1897 Centennial Exposition, this replica of the original Parthenon in Athens serves as a monument to what is considered the pinnacle of classical architecture. The plaster replicas of the Parthenon Marbles found in the Naos are direct casts of the original sculptures which adorned the pediments of the Athenian Parthenon, dating back to 438 B.C. The originals of these powerful fragments are housed in the British Museum in London.

The Parthenon also serves as the city of Nashville's art museum. The focus of the Parthenon's permanent collection is a group of 63 paintings by 19th and 20th century American artists donated by James M. Cowan. Additional gallery spaces provide a venue for a variety of temporary shows and exhibits.

Trespassing is so much easier when even the security office is boarded up.
This was a security checkpoint behind the Mitsubishi Plant and Year One Warehouse.
Lighting:
Streetlight (really close) camera right
SB25 with a green gel fired twice camera left from the shadow aimed at the darks side of the building
SB25 with a red gel fired twice into a window on the opposite side of the building

The white balance was adjusted in the camera to remove the yellow from the streetlight which also changed the effect of the gels.

The tire changer was just sitting beside the building rusting away. It looks kind of like a butter churn.

It was really dark outside tonight. I did not see the Moon at all. This was a test shot that ended up being the only shot because both of my batteries died.
