This is the empty launchpad after liftoff of Space Shuttle Discovery, STS-133. We had to go out there in the dark and retrieve all of our remote cameras from the field. There is nothing for miles around the launchpad except for swamp and mosquitoes. So it's very beautiful to see it all lit up like this against the pitch black surroundings.

The final launch of Shuttle Atlantis STS-135. This was taken with a remote camera donated to The Last Shuttle Project by Sony. We rig the remote cameras with sound triggers that start recording when they hear the roar of the engines firing up.

Liftoff of Shuttle Discovery on Feb 24th, 2011. This was taken with a Canon 5D Mark II mounted near the launch pad. The camera is activated with a sound trigger. The roar of the engine during liftoff tells the camera to start taking video or photos.
