I convinced my dad to take his car out for a spin while home last weekend. It was the first time I've had to try the mode 2 panning on my telephoto lens and I think they came out pretty cool. I love the B&W pics the best because of the way the white car really pops.

Celestial Magic

Alright here it is...my new favorite picture. This was taken at about 3am on Sunday morning as the galactic center of the Milky Way was rising to the east and the aurora was dancing to the north. It's a 180 degree stitch of 7 vertical captures from northwest to southeast. The light pollution at the very left is International Falls and on the far right is Ely. The aurora is a little over-exposed but I wanted 30 second exposures for each shot to maintain consistency and really bring out the stars and foreground. Overall, I love it and hope you all do as well!

I liked using the tent to add some perspective. I also was experimenting with lighting so as not to blow out the highlights. I think these turned out pretty well. I'm not sure which angle I like better because they both offer something different.

After studying cloud cover maps I decided to drive all the way to Voyageur's National Park this weekend for what I hoped would be a spectacular geomagnetic storm. Though it was kind of dud (I don't think the Kp even hit 4, when it was forecast to hit 6), I still got some really great colors. Did a ton of snowshoeing and camped in sub zero temps. I have a bunch more to go through but first I need to get some rest! Enjoy

This is the amazing view on my way out. The mountains were socked in and winds were howling and snow was blowing on my way in so I couldn't see any of this. The night was brutally windy and sunrise was cold and windy. But this view on the way out made me hungry for more and I can't wait to get back to Colorado. Internship this summer out there and then hopefully a full time job in 2014 upon completion of my MBA!

Blowing snow lit up by sunrise colors. Pretty cold and windy but a brilliant sunrise. Unfortunately I was about 10 minutes late on my hike up from camp to Kite Lake so I missed the rest of the great color nor did I have the chance to get my timelapse going. Guess that's the way it goes sometimes.

Full Moon over Minneapolis

Full moon rising over Minneapolis. Got very lucky tonight and was able to catch the moon rising just off the deck through the 7th Avenue corridor between the IDS building and the Well's Fargo and Capella Towers.
