Death Eater

Here is a shot of a replica of the Death Eater mask worn by Bellatrix Lastrange in the Harry Potter movie series.

This was taken yesterday at Filch's Emporium in the Wizarding World of Harry Potter section of Islands of Adventure.

We had promised our kids we would go there and we finally made good on it.

After tasting a butterbeer, I give it a thumbs up. Pumpkin juice (apple juice with pumpkin and cinnamon) not so much.

This was shot within milliseconds of Don Sullivan's front page winning Illuminations shot:

There were several of us there on a photowalk, tripods in a row, shutter releases in hand, clicking away. It was a very cool experience. At least 2 shots, that I know of, taken within seconds of this, made explore. (not mine BTW)

This shot is a very good case in point in favor of the use of Neutral Density filters while shooting a fireworks display. Don used one. I did not. We both used 7D's and L glass. Our settings were pretty close. You can clearly see that Don's shot is sharper and not blown out like mine. I was really impressed with Don's results and I purchased a 0.6 ND filter right after I saw his post.

You may not realize it at first glance but this is actually an Independence Day shot. You think July 4th, then you think Philadelphia, then depending on how hungry you are, you may make the jump to cheesesteak (I did).

This is an HDR shot from our recent family visit to Philly / New York. We had to get a classic cheesesteak sandwich, so we decided to hit Jim's. There is much debate on where the best place is in town to get a "real" cheesesteak sandwich. I will not attempt to argue the point, since I live in Florida, how would I know?

The South Street Jim's is in a neighborhood that reminds me of Ybor, in Tampa. A lot of old buildings, a lot of nightlife and a little on the, "adult" side. Really cool place to walk around. Jim's itself had a line around the side of the building and a small dining room upstairs. There was a very steep and narrow stairwell that ran from the back of the kitchen area to get to the dining room upstairs (you can see the windows to the dining room in the shot). There were the usual autographed photos of famous patrons all over the walls.

I had a really good cheesesteak sandwich. Fortunately, I shared a table with my Mom and my daughter, which meant I had the opportunity to eat half of their sandwiches as well, since they could not finish them.

I have never been to this resort before, so it was a nice surprise to see this since Joe's shot had really made an impression on me. I was trying to compose this from what I remembered and this is what I came up with. Obviously, this was late afternoon vs. 1 in the morning, but I did not have the option of waiting.
