Another from London, this is one of the exits at Canary Wharf tube station in London.

I took a load of shots from this spot as it was a real trick getting everything to line up in a way that worked. You would think composing with a fisheye is a relatively simple task and typically it is, but when you have lots of converging lines it can get quite tricky.

Nearly the weekend ... finally! Putting the tree up with my boys on Saturday which should help get grumpy me back on track! Not been out with my camera for a couple of weeks has not helped.

Anyway, this is my last post of the week, so have yourselves a great weekend! :-)

Lloyds Willis

martinturner posted a photo:

Am back a little earlier than planned, as was getting a bit bored ;-) I am completely out of new stuff as not used my camera in a few weeks, but decided to have a scout through some old London shots in preparation for my forthcoming Open House London trip. I stumbled upon these classics which I thought would look good in black and white.

So, Open House. Those of you who are going - did you get any of your bookings? I got one of the three I had chosen which I am pleased about. I feel a little compensated given the amount of wasted time I invested in the booking process. I think they should have persisted with fixing the booking system rather than go with the balot system, as those most interested would have persisted with trying to book and those less bothered would have given up. I feel a lot of people are going to miss out this time round as there will be a stack of no shows. That said, there are still a lot of buildings that did not require booking so will still be a great weekend.

Oh, and in other news, I bought a new camera. Well I say new, its actually a second hand Nikon D700. I am very excited about the jump to full frame and especially the ISO capabilities for my indoor stuff. Will be a learning curve to find the sweet spot of the new lenses and work out what I can get away with handheld before needing a tripod.

I hope to get round to you all as soon as I can! Have a great week!

Whilst in London with Flickr buddy Lauri Hytti, we stopped off on the North Bank of the Thames to get a shot of Battersea Power Station. I wouldn't normally go with the classic composition but actually this was the best spot and more importantly it was a quick stop as we were on route to the pub ;-) I did shoot a couple of long exposures, but the fluffy white clouds make a much nicer black and white; the water was blended from one of the longer exposures (in case you are wondering). Looks best on black I think 'L'.

Have a great week all! :-)

I had to go to London for work earlier this week, so thought I'd bring the camera on the off chance I would get some free time. Unfortunately, no spare time, but I did manage to shoot this on the way down. In case the title did not give it away, this was taken inside Paddington tube station (on route to the Bakerloo line).

martinturner posted a photo:

This was taken inside Tottenham Court Road Tube station on a very grey Saturday. The station holds lots of meaning to me as before I moved to Bristol, I used to work just up the road from here. It felt quite strange photographing something that used to be part of my every daily life. I remember years ago seeing some photographers in this station and wondering 'why on earth would you want to take a photo of a filthy tube station?'. Since looking at things through a lens, tube stations hold a wealth of photographic delight.

Due to something weird going on with my fisheye, I have had to flip this shot as the left hand side was distinctively soft compared to the right? I have not had this issue before so am a bit confused. That said, it does not take away from the original as it is very symmetrical to begin with.

Also, would like to say thanks to Paul and Liesel ; two of my long standing Flickr buddies who I met up with.
Continuing my tube station crawl, this was taken inside Waterloo station. I took a few versions of this, although I like this one as I like the way the girl breaks up the symmetry. The lighting was really poor hence why its a bit soft and noisy in places, but hey, sometimes you can only do your best with the tools at hand.

A more traditional composition taken at Canary Wharf tube station. Was quite tricky to get this one as there is a massive column at the bottom so had to have camera at arms length and guess the angle. I really wanted to get a long exposure to capture a bit of motion, but spotted security keeping their beady eyes on me, so opted against propping the camera up. I had already been told off at the London Eye, so was less bold. May get brave on a revisit :-)
