Transparent Reflections (Take a View Landscape POTY 2012 Shortlisted)

martinturner posted a photo:

EDIT - I am delighted to announce that this image has been shortlisted in the Take A View Landscape Photographer of the Year 2012 competition. I got one in the book last year link so a great honour to make it through to next round again. Fingers crossed everyone!

Taken last year at Open House London event, this is from the top of City Hall. I held off uploading this as I never could decide on processing, but having spent a bit of time recently working on my black and whites I felt it rather suited the scene. I love how transparent and reflective the glass panel is. As you can see, if you get there when it first opens its relatively empty.

Hope you are all having a great week - I hear we have a bit of sunshine coming this weekend.

Unfortunately I was unable to attend the Take a View Landscape Photography Awards 2011 evening as it coincided with the birth of my son, although they have very kindly sent me a photo taken by their photographer on the night, Michael Kemp. You can see my commended 'Batman' image projected onto the exterior of the National Theatre on London's Southbank; I am rather made up as it's a fabulous end to such a great year.

Thank you all once again for all your well wishes, I promise to post a baby pic soon! I hope you all had a great Christmas and are looking forward to your New Year celebrations! Ours will be a quiet night in, but we do have some good food and a rather nice bottle of wine to see us through, although I think we will probably be asleep before the clock strikes twelve. ;-)

All the best, Martin.

For those of you who don't know, this is the helical staircase inside London's City Hall on the Southbank of the River Thames. Public access was granted as it was part of the Open House London weekend, it's a rather smashing day out if you can put up with all the queuing and the masses of people. I think next time I am going to scout out the smaller, less popular locations as I reckon there is a minefield of original material waiting to be shot.

Hoping to get out soon and shoot something new, but for now, the archives will have to do. :-)

Taken in my back garden with a 105mm macro lens. Its a manual focus lens on my D40, so had one hand holding the camera and the other on the dandelion. I then blew on the dandelion which dislodged some of those 'umbrella thingies' I then waited for a gust of wind and snapped very quickly. The dark background is just the garden shed. This has had no processing other than a sharpen and a slight exposure adjustment as it was a little bright.
