Rainbow Lorikeets are very popular in New Zealand as pet and aviary birds. Native to some parts of Australia, this brightly coloured gregarious parrot feeds primarily on pollen, nectar and fruits, but will feed on grains. It is almost always seen in pairs or in flocks, which can contain up to a thousand birds. Like most parrots they nest in hollow limbs or trunks of dead or living trees. They are prolific, with pairs known to rear as many as three successive broods in a single season thus enabling the population to increase rapidly. Rainbow lorikeets look very similar to the more common eastern rosella. The main distinguishing feature is the lorikeets' blue head.

These two parakeets look as if they're having a love fest but in actual fact the one on the left is feeding the one on the right. They both have a bit of bird seed by their beaks.

A group shot. Back, left to right are Zoey (1yr), Phoebe (1st birthday today), Minx (4), Brooke (4). In front are Elle-Mae (2) and Faithe (1). Zoey and Faithe are our granddoggy chihuahuas. It's Phoebe's 1 yr old birthday today, Mon, 3 March (we are ahead here in NZ).

Surprisingly, my usually co-operative model Brooke was the difficult one for this photo shoot. She kept sticking her tongue out, yawning, standing up or wanting to get down. Maybe she didn't like sharing the limelight. Hubby helped keep them all in place.

Chihuahua Pups with attitude

I was so taken by the dear wee girl in the middle of the photo. She is the smallest and quietest in a litter of five pups and is a half sister to our granddoggies Zoey and Faithe. Her two littermates on either side of her there look as if they have some attitude LOL.

Lots of bees around in the late afternoon at the Wellington Botanical Gardens. Just made a very brief visit there that day. It was quite breezy so not ideal for taking photos as the flowers kept moving in the wind.
