Our Baby's Crib, All Ready to Go

I am past my due date, and the suspense of waiting to meet our baby is infecting every day. Each morning, E.J. and I wake up and wonder if today will be our baby's birthday.

Now that I have put the hurdle of the NCLEX exam behind me (I am officially a RN--I am pinching myself to believe this!) and no longer have the welcome distraction of studying, I have set up camp on our couch where I spend my days knitting like mad, catching up on DVR'd shows, and repeatedly telling our baby how much we love him or her and how we can't wait to meet him or her. It's going to be the most incredible thing to finally see this little person's face, examine every toe and finger, and fall in love with him or her outside of the womb.

Jenny's post about her spring collection fabrics this evening on the Wiksten Facebook page got me thinking about the cotton/linen cloths I lived in as beach wraps when E.J. and I honeymooned in Tanzania. We would see women using these cloths for almost every purpose--baby slings, scarves, skirts. This was taken outside of our cabin in Zanzibar, our reward after climbing Mount Kilimanjaro. Truly a once in a lifetime trip, we were pinching ourselves the whole time to be married, and in Africa.

Yumiko Sakurai's Kanoko Pants pattern is one of my most favorite baby knit patterns. The pants knit up so quickly, and they are really just too adorable. I knit them last year for my friend Ilona's baby girl, and she lived in them all fall and winter. I can't wait to bundle our baby in them.

Our wall decals are from Wee Gallery--we wanted our baby to have a bit of Vermont in New York City. I love woodland creatures.

My first full lace project, inspired by Elly and Natalie...this one nearly defeated me again and again until I got smart and started inserting a life line after every lace repeat. Two years ago when Martha McQuade introduced her Uniform Natural "Gleaning" collection, I became a little obsessed with the purple color that infused the entire collection, and that Christmas, my friend Heather gave me the delicious purple malabrigo I ended up using for the neckerchief.

I'll be six months this week!

I am constantly amazed by every stage of this pregnancy.

I think a lot about how we are in this modern age and yet we haven't perfected a better way to hatch a baby other than a woman carrying the baby for 40 weeks. There's something so primitive about it, trusting that your body knows exactly what it is supposed to do.

Our baby has been moving a lot for the past few weeks and it is the most incredible feeling--this little goldfish of a person stretching and reminding me that he or she is there.
