Coconuts

This is on an island, first settled by Chinese immigrants who used it as a coconut plantation. Coconut trees are apparently too tall, too far apart, to train monkeys to get the fruit down (something still done in other parts of Thailand.) Instead, locals simply wait for them to fall naturally then gather them up. One actually fell 2 metres from my wife, which would have surely killed her. Was imagining how embarassing it would have been for me to tell that tale...

You see these outside almost every home in Thailand, spirit houses to appease the otherworldly occupants of the land. Inside are little figurines to represent the spirits, and often elephants, horses, dancers to entertain them.

I'd have liked to have got closer to this one, but this area is ground central for King Cobras. And I'm a massive jessie.
