Four villagers wait while an AFP (Armed Forces of the Philippines) dentist prepares for a dental exam. A school classroom was converted into a makeshift dentist office for the day. The villagers stand in line outside the room and came in in fours. The most common procedure was yanking teeth!

They look as nervous as I do at the dentist.

It's a draw. After a 15 minute expedition the boys hold each others arms up in sportsmanship.

They were boxing on the tarmac on a Filipino base on Sulu Island. I came across them while walking to my barracks.

On my flight to Jolo we flew along the coast of Sulu island. Small villages dotted the coats and old Volcanoes and mountains rose in the distance.

On our way to Jolo we stopped at a small Philippine military base to deliver supplies. The base was surrounded by dense jungle and old WWII era guns stood guard.

My assistant Michael shows children at a MEDCAP their picture. Michael helps me in Antipollo and came with me to Sulu Island in the Southern Philippines. We were attending a Medical Clinic hosted by the Armed Forces of the Philippines and US forces. I gave Michael my point and shoot and a quick lesson and he took it from there.

I took some shots of the Bato Bato road project for the military. In the center you can see part of 4km road constructed during Balikatan. The village of Bato Bato behind it lines the coast.

Michael gets crazy with camera

I gave my sidekick my little Canon A630 (which is a good camera by the way) to take pics on our trip to Jolo. Michael is from Antipolo (in the north) and came with me to Jolo to help with translation and getting around.
Looks like he's getting a little crazy with the camera.

btw - This was his first time using a camera. I gave him a lesson on the plane flight down. Other shots from Jolo and Bato of me were taken by Michael.
Leave him a comment if you like and I will make sure he sees them.

The Marines were kind enough to give me a tour of Bato Bato. This was a village I was shooting where they rebuilt a road and school.
