This was a dancer entering the huge arena with her group. Surrounded by all the photographers, cameramen and attendees, she seemed so happy to be right where she was, dancing her people's dance.

Dancers at the World Eskimo Indian Olympics

An amazing way to end our Alaska trip. We got to see many dancers from all over Alaska (even New Mexico and Arizona!), some incredible feats of strength and agility and experience the true culture of Alaska as it still lives so vibrantly today (as great as museums are). We only wish we could have stayed much, much longer instead of catching our flight home.

This group is Haida or Tlingit, I believe (or both). This style is much more common in the Southeast where the climate is rainy and temperate than in the north, where furs and skins seemed to be more common traditional dress.
