I think this is an azalea (thanks Lyonheart): the up-standing claw of bright red petals against the other primary colours of green grass, with a hint of a bluebell in the distance, made a simple yet powerful composition.

One of my early experiments with a new Canon EOS-550D with the regular 55-250mm zoom lens. No manipulations other than minor ACR tweaks.

The first time I went to Crail, I wound-up down at the stony beach with a large-format camera playing with superimposing 5 images on one frame of film.
Time time, I made it to within about 10yd of where that photo had happened, but the experimentation took the form of a pseudo-HDR - three shots all of the *same* exposure, combined in Photoshop to gain the effect of the motion without the garish colour/tonal saturation issues.

I quite liked the shades of yellow and stripy red in the rock, too.

Check out the rear-tilt on that, too. Theoretically everything from 3' to infinity in focus.
Shen-Hao large-format camera, rodenstock 150mm lens (somewhere in there), slik tripod with the centre-column dug into the gravel, lee red filter and grad-blue cokin-P filter, cable-release, flash hotshoe dangling nearby (recently used with my SB-800 for fill-flash).

The results were suitably crazy too.
