Well, more like butterfly on hat, but I still like the reference....

This was taken at the Carleton Annual Butterfly Show. They have thousands of butterflies in a green house for about a week. Think tropical jungle, hot humid and full of school kids :) Oranges and white hats seem to be butterfly magnets.

The Medieval Fair in Osgoode, just south of Ottawa provided quite an opportunity for people to "travel" in time. There were a lot of cos-players. Unfortunately, I left my elven +23 boots at home.... [More shots below....]

I spotted this plant near Mud Lake about a week ago. I have no idea what this is. It looks a lot like a micro eco-system on a stick. The second shot shows the relative size of the flowers. It's almost like two different plants coexisting.

It's so cold, that they put sweaters on trees!

It was a part of Winterlude. I don't know why this was done, but I believe it was to raise awareness of homelessness.

The sunset like object in the back is actually the sunset reflecting off a building in the back.

After 24 hours of freezing rain, the sun finally showed up for a few minutes today. We were relatively fortunate. A lot of people in Ottawa are still without power due to these "Ice Worms" forming on power lines....

I have no idea what caused the halo effect around this little guy. It was not visible to the naked eye. I'm guessing that it is his winter coat extended due to the cold. It also appears that he was a participant in a snowball fight....But not with me! No post-processing. (Just cropped) Another view here.

The wedding photographer dragged this poor girl along the rock face beside Hogsback Falls. He should have realized that the 6 inch stiletto heels that she was wearing do not work very well on a rocky surface. She was a good sport about it, but she probably had a few choice words for him afterward....

This is a "Nuthatch", I think. The feeder was overrun by Chickadees, of course, but a pair of these birds did get a few seeds occasionally. It was a bit of a battle watching the birds approach and be warned off by other birds. Quite a civil war :)

There is a small dip in the Rideau River just south of Ottawa. The ducks were swimming around to the top of the "rapids" and then rafting down....

Just downstream of Hogsback Falls in a small loopback. The light was quite nice since the rain had conveniently cleaned the air for the last WEEK! There were actually a surprising number of people walking along the "river".

Autumn is not all colours and light. There is also a seedy side to it as well. The end of the season provides a huge amount of defunct vegetation that has to be cleaned up somehow.

In a rural setting, it's no big deal, (just toss the leaves into the "back 40"), but in a suburban environment, it means buying huge number of "Lawn Waste" bags and loading up landfills :(
