Taken at Strumpshaw Fen, Norfolk. They sing from within the Reeds rather than from a prominent perch and are normally seen rather than heard, so was glad of a fairly good view of this chap. Best viewed large for detail, uncropped here to show the natural habitat.

Male Blackbird with a beak full of delicacies (there is even some sort of bug in there). This shot made me feel peckish so diet was put on hold for a couple of Sausage & Egg McMuffins on the way home. Taken at Strumpshaw Fen, Norfolk.

What a beautiful day! Arrived at 7am and the car park was already nearly full. Lovely to walk round the reserve in the sun with all the bird song, even heard a Grasshopper Warbler for the first time and my first Cuckoo of the year! A Barn Owl flew within 20 feet of me but of course before I had got my camera set up.

Have never managed a decent shot of a Wren before though so can't complain!

Taken at Holme. I noticed that in mid call the pheasant has its protective third eyelid in place. Could be the ideal opportunity for a Marsh Harrier to vary its diet.

What a lovely day! Spent an hour at Holme after work watching the Marsh Harriers. They must be very well fed by the number of rabbits, pigeons and pheasants running around. My wife thinks this one is a bit gory - I didn't realise she was carrying the remains of a rabbit when I took this shot.

At least I think it is a Sedge Warbler but stand to be corrected. Taken at Strumpshaw Fen. Hard to spot these chaps out in the open! A summer visitor to the UK from the edges of the Sahara Desert. They have a very loud rasping song - try the link below.

Male Marsh Harrier

Taken at Lakenheath Fen on Saturday. Beautiful day! but managed to sunburn just half my face whilst sat watching the Harriers for a couple of hours. It hadn't dawned on me until watching this pair that they build their nest on the ground - even though I have seen many times branches being fetched and dropped - I just assumed they then took them up a tree later! Shown uncropped with the bird in hunting mode.
