Jackie Miller

The Nite Tripper posted a photo:

This is an old 1950’s era photograph from my collection of a model who went by the name of Jackie Miller. During the height of her career (1940’s – 1950’s), she appeared in countless photo shoots and “stag” films that were distributed nationally through mail order. Of all the girls who posed in these photographs during that time period, Jackie is my favorite of them all...

Jackie was originally a showgirl who worked in the Miami, Florida area. Standing at 5’11” and blessed with beauty and a glowing personality, she quickly received offers from photographers who promised to launch her into a highly successful modeling career and other opportunities for fame beyond that. For a while, she modeled for the now legendary photographer/model, Bunny Yeager. After working for Yeager, she modeled for the king of “fetish” pictures and reel-to-reel movies, Irvin Klaw. During her time working with Klaw, she was reduced to doing more and more risqué photo sessions that eventually got her labeled as an “underground” model, thus ruining her chances for more legitimate, “public friendly” work.

By the end of the 1950’s, Jackie completely vanished into obscurity; likely scrounging for whatever work was available and living off of pittance pay. If Jackie is alive today, she would be a very elderly woman in her late 80’s or early 90’s.

This is an old photo from my copy of a small booklet called “Bandit In High-Heels” that was created sometime during the mid 1950’s by a company known as “Exotique Publications” based out of New York, New York and published by the Burmel Publishing Company. This was an extremely low budget publication that featured a cheesy fantasy story in double spaced, typewritten print. Better quality text could be found written by a junior high student.

Publications, such as this, were cheaply and mass produced and distributed underground for discerning gentlemen who purchased them discreetly for the literary content, of course! Many of the women who appeared in these publications were aspiring actresses who did this because there was no other work to be had or were promised that this would be a stepping stone for launching a successful career. In addition, many of the women depicted in these publications were burlesque dancers or strippers who were already accustomed to such work and were merely padding their income.

Here is an old Kodacolor photograph from my collection of a housewife posing beside a large rock formation while on vacation that was taken in July 1955. I have several photographs of this lady and her family that were taken from the early 1950’s up until the late 1960’s. The only member of the family that is identified is her daughter, Maureen.

I acquired this photograph from a gentleman as part of a lot containing well over 1,000 photographs stuffed into a box that he found in an old house that he had recently bought. All of these photographs were taken by many different people of different races from numerous locations. How they all wound up together into one large collection is a mystery unto itself.

Here is a photograph of a young lady modeling one of the latest styles of women's hats that were available from Lord & Taylor, a clothing store in New York City, New York. This 46 page catalog from 1895 was unusual for the time because it contained actual photographs of ladies modeling the items for sale versus drawings of the clothing items. The following is printed in the front of the catalog:

"In writing or ordering, it is sufficient to give the number found under the illustration. We have similar books containing illustrations of: Ladies' Worsted Suits, Ladies' Silk Suits, Ladies' Cloaks, and articles of Mourning Apparel, which will be sent without charge."

Also in the front of the catalog is the following:

"No. 103. This book is the property of Lord & Taylor and must be returned within five days."

There is nothing to identify this young lady...

Here is an old photograph of two lovely ladies having fun in a dingy basement that was taken sometime during the early 1950's.

Photos, such as this, could be obtained through discreet mail order back in the 1950's (and the 1940's). Any gentleman who wished to have copies of these photos could send away for them by writing to mail order services advertised in the back of various magazines without the fear of "proper" society finding out.
