It's hard to stay outside all night freezing the crown jewels, so we thought we'd be smart and hired a glass igloo for the night. That way we could stay warm while watching the skies. I mounted the Sigma 10-20mm lens and left the camera switched on attached to the tripod, ready for the show. Continued...

I had no idea how to photograph the Aurora Borealis. I'd brought the tripod to Finland, but didn't manage to strap it on the snow mobile. After this I changed to the slower but much wider 10-20mm lens in the freezing cold... Continued...

This is the best shot I managed to get that night of our weak Aorora Borealis, with the camera placed in the back pack on the snow mobile, and a bit of post processing the contrast in PS. Nothing amazing, but a good memory for us nevertheless. Now all we had to do was race back to the hotel on the snow mobiles! Continued...

When we got this shot taken we weren't even aware the Auroro Borealis was already around. It was only when I started processing the photos that I found the faint trace along the horizon, so with a bit of careful pushing... voila! Continued...

The unprocessed version of the Snow Cathedral photo, staright out of the camera. Because there's rarely time to really set up for a photo while travelling, I tend to shoot slightly underexposed, always in RAW format, and then process the contrast and colour in the photo section by section.

Inside the glass igloo it's pretty cramped, so while we left most of our baggage in our cabin, but the view should be spectacular. Better yet, it's warm! Continued...

The hunt for the Aurora Borealis begins in our village. I was determined to try whatever it takes to catch it, eventhough I already knew there was an element of luck involved, not to mention clear sky. We had maximised our chances by going during the spring eclipse, during which the solar winds are supposedly stronger, so the chances of seeing the lightshow was better.

I'd met a guy from New Jersey, but currently resident in London. He seemed quite clued up on the Aurora Borealis. He said he'd gone out at nights near the 'warm toilet block' in front of the Snow Igloos and beside the Snow Cathedral, so we headed off that way. Continued...

My New Jersey friend from London points to another 'Aurora', and we shoot it. I query him as to whether if they're not usually green, while these are all yellow. He concurs, but adds that that's the cool thing about this place, Dude, here you get all the yellow ones and even red ones...!

Right... And I suppose the red lights appear just before another reindeer mysteriously appears as road kill?
