Note: 5/2/2013 - Just now putting this new 4-videos-running-at-once creation in groups.
If you view, enjoy! If you have time, view each one on its own page (each linked below) with its original music. Pinnacle allows me to do this multi-video thing, and I love it!
I combine them in one showing on this page, with a totally different music score appropriately titled "Dawn of a New Day" (music is soft, turn up your speakers)
Music and video art capability are through my Pinnacle Studio HD Ultimate program. All graphics were created with Paint Shop Pro version 6.
-------------------------------------------------------------------
4 separate videos, each with a uniquely cadenced music score chosen to match the graphics loading in are posted on my stream on these links:

I cannot lie. Well, ok, I have that choice - but I choose not to. Often to get myself calm from a particularly harried episode of parenting, I seek refuge on my Paint Shop Pro program. I work with controlled images like shapes and contrasting colors that line up neatly and go where I want them. After one such episode with the S - (beginning letter of my last name), it morphed into an S.O.S. and then later into artsy video art. Somewhere there is an abstract artist deep within me. She seems to want to get rid of lines and shapes that match and coordinate and stay where they are put. She wants to break free of the mundane...
2013 digital Breast Cancer Awareness Quilt Square sample - by mimitalks, married w/children

Go here to sign up for the quilt (4th comment down) - anyone is welcome. You don't have to be an imager - we can do one for you with your photos and what you want to say. A great way to support the survivor that may be in your life, or if you are one to join in our awareness project. Oh, and if you are a man, what better way to support and encourage the women in your life?

to let the participants know where you can create - almost everywhere! - and where you can't. This is just something I threw together fairly quickly to show you what your final submission to me may look like. You can do 3-d, text**, texturing, photos**, digital elements, etc. anywhere on your double square except the outside borders of each square and the two ribbons on viewer's left. For continuity of a design in our quilt, I will overlay them with border design and ribbon design, respectively, before publishing the quilt. Keep in mind that I will fabric-look your submissions as well (around the edges specifically) so that our squares will more closely resemble the fabric in a real quilt. Each participant will see her finalized double quilt square before its addition to and publication in the quilt. Then he/she will be invited to post his/her original version publically in his/her photostream, groups, etc. This will help advertise the quilt and help us continue to spread the awareness of the devastating disease of Breast Cancer.

** Reminder - all of these additions to your square - including the photos - must be family-friendly. No catch words for breasts or photos of cleavage or nudity will be included in the quilt.

We'd love to have you join the 2013 Digital Breast Cancer Awareness Quilt on Flickr" - by mimitalks, married w/children" />

Breast Cancer Awareness collection - we've done 5 quilts so far, view the sets
Sign up for the quilt (in comments or Flickr mail me) - anyone is welcome. You don't have to be an imager - we can do one for you with your photos and what you want to say. A great way to support the survivor that may be in your life, or if you are one to join in our awareness project. Oh, and if you are a man, what better way to support and encourage the women in your life?
------------------------------
I've already asked some of you - and got several affirmative answers! It would awesome to have some new people also join us this year, as we undergo what has been since 2008 an annual Flickr project. This year will be our 6th time to join forces - both photographers and digital imagers - in the creation of a digital quilt to promote Breast Cancer Awareness. I'm taking names right now for the participants. All it takes is a Flickr member with a heart for awareness, and I know we have those in abundance. I've got a choice of 2 double square templates ready (see comments), and the "rules" are basically the same. Keep all images family/friendly and be inventive, creative, exciting and eye-catching in your personal message for awareness. Stay as much as you can within the color scheme for your double square, and please state why you chose to participate this year. The candle can be any color, texture, etc. If you find the candle hard to do, I can put one on there for you before we publish. Just let me know.

The only stipulations this year as far as where you can image or put a photo or text is that I ask you to not change the borders and the ribbons as shown on both templates. (I'll put a uniform ribbon design and border on your double-squares before they go into the quilt - and as always, I will fabric-look the square you submit before it goes into the quilt.) You are welcome to decorate the rest of the double-squares, including the colored areas. There are no rules this year as to what goes where (other than the ribbon and border) - you decide. Please put your siggy somewhere, so you can get credit for the submission. Keep it understated - you want people to view your images and message first and then go see who did it. IMPORTANT - imagers doing their own squares, save your work in the highest resolution possible and retain it's original size, 1746 pixels wide by 873 pixels high.

As always, I am the clearinghouse for ideas, comments, questions about the quilt and stand ready to help when you are ready to get started. You will have roughly 4 1/2 months to get your ideas together and submit your entries. I plan to publish this October 1, 2013 - the first day of National Breast Cancer Awareness month in the U.S. So Flickr mail me or comment below that you want to join us in this effort, and we'll be on our way!

It would awesome to have some new people also join us this year, as we undergo what has been since 2008 an annual Flickr project.
Breast Cancer Awareness collection - we've done 5 quilts so far, view the sets

I'd love to do a 6th one - will act as project manager. If you have a heart for BCA, that's all you need. We will work with you and your chosen photos to make you a square. If you are a digital imager, that's gravy and you can do your own square. Same rules will apply - family/friendly images only and you work from a template or choice of templates I will provide.
True...

still from the artsy video puzzle art
(Included in my sets on Flickr, all done with templates I came up with - Digital Puzzle art images and my set of artsy Video Art (Creative, Build-it Slideshows)
(quick how-to - all graphics were done with Paint Shop Pro vs. 6 (first "drawing" the template with the mouse and the line tool - I use the pencil tool a lot). All the graphics in this are mine (no canned tubes). Putting together the video - including the music - was done with Pinnacle Studio HD Ultimate vs. 15 - (Avid product).
I used lots of the options for the Deformation tool in Paint Shop Pro here - making something a circle and then pinching it and punching it. The puzzle template was blurred on purpose at first with with motion blur to make the pieces stand out. The duplicate option (reproducing a layer exactly where it is in the image) has become my best friend. Do you know I just found that within the last year? (I used to place copied layers painstakingly by hand.) I've redone my puzzle template, so it is a little cleaner to work with. I have several inner bevel settings from PSP to accomplish making the puzzle pieces. I used the twirl setting here to "spin" the first pieces - you set the tightness of the spin by number options. It "spins" the entire frame. Later in the artsy video art, I rotate the single pieces across the image by hand, at fifteen percent rotation at a time on each one until I have a complete revolution. Throughout I used feathering with freehand (the lasso) selection, adjusment of brightness/contrast and colorization to get the dynamic look of the frames running (around 400 in all). I used gaussian blur sparingly to prevent a pixely or cut-look as the pieces "twirled", and generally to smooth any pixelation that occured anywhere as I worked with this. On the "slowly dropping out-of-sight" puzzle pieces - to do this correctly, you really have to watch the placement of positional numbers (so many pixels in both horizontally and vertically) and keep everything lined up - or it won't flow smoothly and "jiggle". That is very painstaking, but worth it. I went a step up on using more 3-D transitions than just the fade effect for transitions between frames (Alpha Pack) and was very pleased with the result - an option from Pinnacle. The negative imaging option was used to make the black on white template white on black and was used on the puzzle pieces across the top specifically. I used the pattern setting and the mosaic glass setting in the final images. If you view, enjoy. Any questions? Flickr mail me. Thx ever so.................Mimi

-------
My love of "creating" knows no bounds, but she is and has been for a long time my inspiration to do so. Our son, Patrick, was 3 when we got our first Windows '95 Acer computer, and I discovered the Microsoft Paint program and drawing with a mouse (not easy and my stuff then may have chronicled our days, but was nothing to brag about). My love of graphics really started when Erin was a baby. I would hold her on my lap and correspond with my online Pregnancy list of ladies having had babies the same month and year as my latest. One of those ladies (whose baby was actually born about a month earlier than E-leigh) introduced me to Flickr and remains on here. Another of those ladies was a Microsoft consultant, and she knew I played with the graphic programs I could get my hands on. She recommended Paint Shop Pro (then version 5) to me. I loved it, but came into my own as far as really using it when - with an online coupon she gave me - I upgraded to Paint Shop Pro vs. 6, purchasing it for only 8 bucks. (Best 8 dollars I've ever spent!) Though I've fooled with Adobe photoshop in a limited edition and tried a few other programs here and there, Paint Shop Pro remains my favorite. My husband's bought me two upgrades since Corel took over the program, and while they admittedly have very cool effects (vs. 10 and Paint Shop Pro PhotoX2), I prefer version 6 for most things. Best thing about it? You don't connect online to use it, so it loads fast. Detriment to using it? I can't save in .png format, so have to go to another version to do that. But I can live with that.

Anyway, she's been "Mommy's very photogenic model with a really expressive face" for years and though the newness has worn off, she'll still do it for me sometimes - especially if she has a new dress. Her image has become synonymous with the BCA projects we've been able to do on Flickr, and a lot of people here have seen both of our kids "grow up" in photos. Patrick used to love me taking his picture, but that wore off really soon :).

Starting with photo sessions done 3 years ago, imaging done from those and then crazy, chaotic digital imaging on a current pic of our young miss. Why not?
Lots of canned effects from Paint Shop Pro done here - deformation options twirling, curlicue, ripple, wave, spiky halo and some kaleidoscope and mosaic-glass settings are applied here and there. Graphic design viewer right at beginning contains a Paint Shop Pro tube on the "S" in the words, "Sign your work". Imaging other than the building montage of our daughter's image that goes into abstractivity is basically done with these settings: feathering, gamma correction, adjustment of red, green and blue tones, greyscale, hue saturation, colorize, adjustment of brightness and contrast, gaussian blur, motion blur, duplicate, drop shadow and promoting of feathered selections (with freehand lasso) to layers. Signature at the end is done with inner bevel settings I've come up with, so is the fabric art in one of the graphic montages. Fabric art starts with patterns made (PSP function) from a selected designed image on my hard drive. All of these are options for manually changing a photo or creating your own work of art and contained in version 6 of Paint Shop Pro (which I use for ease of use) and all later versions of the program once owned by JASC and bought out by Corel. Video Art is done with the capabilities of Pinnacle Studio HD Ultimate (vs. 15), and the music for it is provided by that program. Pinnacle is a product from Avid, a leading maker of video editing or production software for both home and commercial use.
I'm an amateur. This is just for fun, honing future job skills and hopefully, the enjoyment of the viewer.

image and story below is from March, 2009
- noted 4/23/2013 - TAKS is this week! This (above) always seems to apply :).
---------------------------------------------
TAKS practice today, TAKS tests at school tomorrow for both of them.
My alarm didn't go off, stomach ache today when she was fine and partied with us and a friend and our church family all weekend.
Heaven forbid that a 14-year old boy and a 10-year old girl
could set their own alarms and actually get up without assistance.

Dad's at work.

Nothing, absolutely nothing makes him hurry in the morning.
(My son, not his Dad)

It is always my fault...

And yes, they were tardy.

Oh, yes, she mentioned that she had a note (in her backpack, which was left in the car 'cause she had no homework)
asking for parents to notify the room mother if they are allergic to any of the foods in the snack for today (rare, allowed each year on the day previous to TAKS' tests - you know, the ones that cause them not to get promoted to the next grade should they fail them). This (the note) was mentioned maybe 10 minutes before we left.
She has a food sensitivity to all major food groups tested for and some of those foods are in the bag. Since it's not life-threatening, I'm not going to worry about it. Jr. executive decision - as I often tell my husband.

Dad's at work. It's all my fault, remember.

She mentioned in the car going that she didn't have her glasses
and probably left them at Reilly's house (nothing new- they are
left more often than not).
Reilly's mom hadn't seen them.
I found them in her bed after both kids were dropped off (one mad, one crying because I dared to lose my patience and both late), obviously rolled on at some point during the night.

We didn't get the message on the answering machines that the new ones were ready until after the eye place was closed. I can go get them 'cause they are now open (and weren't of course when we needed them to be), but she'd have to be fitted
and that means taking her out of school to do it for them to be of use to
her today.
On a returned phone call her teacher and I decided
it wasn't worth it. She could do without them today
(again, that's nothing new - as she often forgets them).

I handed him $3.00 for lunch today (having to honk so he'd come back to the car because we both forgot it - angering him once again because I interrupted the announcements on the loud speaker outside - I thinks he thinks they could hear me). He is out of money because he is still overspending at lunch no matter how many times we tell him he can only have so many extra items. I told him today we will no longer send a 2 week check to submit. He will take that day's lunch money with him
every day.

And of course it is all my fault.

And how was your morning?
