Green to Red

I went down to the end of the platform to catch an eastbound container train that was approaching on track 1. I this 13 second exposure, I managed to capture the change from green to red as the train passed through the control point.

Eastbound Control Section at Silverwood

The signals for track 1 show the different phases it went through as a train made its way up Cajon Pass. It was flashing yellow when I started the exposure, and turned to green just before the train rounded the curve behind us. Finally, it turned red as the train passed the control point. I didn't stop the exposure until the end of the train passed by. (exposed for 10.5 minutes)

Two Passing through Silverwood

A westbound train head toward the camera on track 2 as an eastbound train was making its way up track 1. The red dashes under the lower white streaks are the flashing light of the EOT device found on the last car of the train.

West Colton Night Scene

Back in July 2008, the old SP cantilever signal bridge was in service for the main line that passed by the Union Pacific West Colton yard. A couple of trains sit in the departure tracks waiting to head out on to high iron. The signal bridge is no longer a part of this scene.

The BNSF transcon crosses historic Route 66. The westbound control signals stand ready for directing westbound train traffic, and the crossing gates stand by to warn auto traffic of oncoming trains. I'm facing railroad east.
