I got in the beginning of the week a new shipment of khidab, after I had nearly given up the hope to get hold on this bodypaint from Yemen.

Khidab is a Gall ink which is employed in Yemen mainly in the mountainous regions around the capital Sanaa instead of henna. For an account how it is made you can download an article:

Last year all my flowers i had on my balcony died, because the house was in the summer for 3 month renovated. For three month I hadn't a balcony and all the windows were shaded for plastering the walls. Hence nearly all my flowers died.
now I am building up a new adornment for my balcony.

Khidab painting on a foot

I got today a costumer who wanted a khidabpainting on one of her feets. For some reason she didn't want something painted on the ankle and had some others special wishes. In this way the design didn't come out, as I had liked, but never the less I think it is passable.

Reflective mehndi or henna on the palms

Henna or mehndi is not a tattoo which is made with a needle to bring the color pigments beneath the upper layer of the skin and therefore painful and permanent.

To draw such fine lines the finely grounded laeves of the henna shrub is in a first step well sifted, than mixed with warm water. After several hours of let sit the paste the strained paste is filled in a cone or syringue to lay very thin and delicate strings on the skin, which will stain the skin red. THlS DOESN'T HURT AT ALL, but you have to be careful not to smudge the henna and also very patient, because henna needs between 6 to 8 hours to develop a color.

This picuture shows the mehndi after painting the henna on the hand. For that the henna rest moistened for several hours it is sealed with a coat of sugar water.

The patterns I do, are derived from the henna and khidab artwork I saw in Yemen two years ago. They are also known as gulf style or Khalidji. (Khalidj means in Arabic Gulf)

This is a henna-mehndi design I created out of khidab paintings i saw in Yemen 2006
this one is my first design I drew with Illustrator. Till now I used to use Freehand, but Freehand will not be further developped and so I have to llearn Illustrator

I got a job for one week as cultural ambassador and henna-artist by the Qatar-German-Open (see: www.german-open.org/ ). To represent Qatar I had to wear like some of other girls during worktime one of these splendid clothes. I was assigned to do henna on people who like it and in doing it to explain the cultural background of arabian henna.

The Hamam (from Arabic: حمّام‎, ḥammām) is the Middle Eastern variant of a steam bath, which can be categorized as a wet relative of the sauna.

In Western Europe, the Turkish bath as a method of cleansing the body and relaxation was particularly popular during the Victorian era. The process involved in taking a Turkish bath is similar to that of a sauna, but is more closely related to ancient Greek and ancient Roman bathing practices.

A person taking a Turkish bath first relaxes in a room (known as the warm room) that is heated by a continuous flow of hot, dry air allowing the bather to perspire freely. Bathers may then move to an even hotter room (known as the hot room) before splashing themselves with cold water. After performing a full body wash and receiving a massage, bathers finally retire to the cooling-room for a period of relaxation.

The Mausoleum Sayyida Ruqayya (Arabic: مسجد السيدة رقية‎) in Damascus is a shrine located in Damascus, Syria, that contains the grave of the youngest daughter of Husayn ibn ‘Alī by the name of Fātimah. She is often referred to by her titles: "Ruqayya" and "Sukayna" by Arabic speaking Muslims, and the title: "Sakina" by Persian and Urdu speakers.

After enduring the advent of Karbalā and the torturous journey to Damascus that followed it, Lady Ruqayya finally died, only 4 years old, in Yazid's prison, where she was originally buried. Years later however, upon the flooding of her gravesite, Lady Ruqayya's grave was reopened and she was moved to the site where the Mosque now stands.

The design of the mosque is based on Iranian architecture and possesses a tremendous amount of mirror and gold work. There is a small mosque area adjoining the shrine room, along with a small courtyard in front. This mosque is found a short distance from the Umayyad Mosque and the Al-Hamidiyah Souq in central Damascus.

The Mosque is also one of the main places of pilgrimage for shi'ite muslimes.
