Unfortunately, I don't have a good story with this shot. I did want to get get those weeds in the foreground out of the frame, but after the "horse-incident" I kept my feet on plowed roads for this one.

My car was half blocking traffic on a country road when I pulled over to shoot this scene, so i knew I couldn't take too long waiting for the perfect pose out of these horses.

First I trudged through waist deep snow, and fell over into a ditch. Brushed myself off and moved up to the barbed-wire fence that separated me from what I thought was going to be an epic shot. I only had my 18-70mm with me so I wanted to get them to move a little closer, so I tried to bribe them with non-existent hay and carrots. They didn't move and rarely even looked up. Frustrated, I jumped up and down, threw snowballs and shouted obscenities for another 15 minutes before I conceded defeat and slunk back to my car. As I drove away I could hear them laughing. Jerks.

I have known about this place for a while now, but passed by it by a complete fluke the other day. The weather certainly wasn't co-operating with blizzard like conditions and a flat sky - but a quick texture application takes care of that problem.

This was an "F8 and be there" moment, so technically this photo is pretty weak. But, I've never really given a damn about the "technical merits" of photos, and in this case I think that the technical weaknesses (and granted a little bit of processing) give it an old tyme, painterly look. I had a couple of of other shots where the horse and buggy were sharper, but this was the only frame I took (my first of the scene) with that little head-turn from the horse and the perfect position in the road

This is the more prototypical "old pier" shot from 50-point. As much I like the one I uploaded yesterday that was pretty out-side the box, I have to admit that this angle is used so often because it works.... I love the result here.

I've been meaning to get to this location for years now. I had a decent sky, but admittedly I was hoping for better given the sky at home when I left. That said, I can't really complain as I'm pretty happy with what I came away with.

I took a detour through Mennonite country today. I think it may have been too cold for even the hearty Mennonites as I only managed to find 2 scenes that I thought were worth stopping for. But, I'm happy I stopped for this one.

Thursday in Windsor I woke up to an amazing looking sky of nasty, low lying clouds. I spent the day working hoping that they hung around until I was able to get down to the waterfront to shoot the Detroit skyline. Rushed to get there while I still had the light and just barely made it. As I was setting up my tripod the heaven opened up with the coldest windblown, stinging rain I ever been caught in.... 5 minutes away from the warm comfort of my car. Well played Mother Nature.... well played indeed.

Even though I lost the light of day, the low, wind-swept clouds remained when I headed back there after dark. Shot through a light drizzle and a high wind so it's a little soft - but I like it.

If you've seen the movie, I hope you "get this". It is a little more than just a take-off of the movie poster. I've been kicking the idea around for a while and I like the result, but hate the fact that you have to know the movie to "get it".... get it?

What I love about this concept: The fact that even if Hostess was not going through bankruptcy and may or may not go out of business (meaning #1) it's still common knowledge that you just cannot kill a Twinkie (meaning #2).

I actually worked on 3 concepts for this, but this is my favourite. I like the other two a lot though, so I will most likely upload them in the next day or two.

I would write my thoughts on the whole ridiculous matter, but it would end up sounding like a rant - this photo pretty much says all that needs to be said.

Barely got a chance to shoot while in Montreal for work last week, which is too bad as it is a great city.
I did manage to get out for about an hour walking around Olympic Stadium. The clouds were a little too high and slow moving for what I had in mind, but I found if I stacked enough filters I could get something I could work with.

I've found that when you're in a creative slump or unhappy with most of your recent work, it's always a good idea to go back and shoot the places you're comfortable with and had success with before. Church of Our Lady is that place for me.

I have been struggling with this one for a while now. First I had a problem with getting the scissors "animated", but I really like the way it looks begging for it's life once I decided on that. But, then I was stuck on what to do with the rock.... so I just put him out of his misery in this version. I am not sure how happy I am with the finished product, but I think it's time to move on.
