The Twelve Apostles are a collection of eight miocene limestone rock stacks. Despite the name there has only ever been nine stacks. Taken in Port Campbell National Park, between Princetown and Peterborough on the Great Ocean Road, Victoria, Australia.

Queen Victoria Monument

Built on top of the original site of Liverpool Castle, the Queen Victoria monument stands on an area in Derby Square overlooking one of Liverpool's original city Streets, Castle Street.

Before the advent of world war 2, The Queen's presence proudly survayed a lower part of Castle Street, (south), which was badley damaged during the blitz of 1945. In fact, all of the surrounding buildings were distroyed, leaving only the monument to cast a teary eye over her broken second city.

Edinburgh Castle

Edinburgh Castle is a fortress in the city centre which dominates the skyline from its position atop the volcanic Castle Rock. Human habitation of the site is dated back as far as the 9th century BC.

Below the Castle lies Princes Street Gardens. The gardens were created in two phases in the 1770s and 1820s following the long draining of the Nor Loch and the creation of the New Town. The Nor Loch was a large loch on the north side of the town, making expansion northwards difficult. It was heavily polluted from centuries of sewage draining downhill from the Old Town.

There are many statues and monuments in the gardens, the one in the foreground here is of the poet Allan Ramsay.

Greyfriars Bobby

Greyfriars Bobby was a Skye Terrier who became known in 19th-century Edinburgh for spending 14 years guarding the grave of his owner, John Gray (Auld Jock), until he died himself on 14 January 1872.

A year later, Lady Burdett-Coutts had a statue and fountain erected at the southern end of the George IV Bridge to commemorate him.

The Ross Fountain was cast in the early 1860's and found it's way to Princes Street Gardens in 1872.
Figures on the fountain include mermaids and four females depicting science, the arts, poetry, and industry. A final female figure stands at the apex of the fountain.
