Nandroya falls during the "dry season" of 2010

Last October Queensland was in the grip of a horrible, extra-intense dry season with bushfires all over the savannas and the rainforest wilting, the result of an El Niño event. This year, with La Niña, the dams are overflowing and everywhere is saturated - months before the start of the regular rainy season.

The loud crackling is the the rain falling on my umbrella.

The falls are one of several in the Johnstone/Palmerston/Wooranooran area at the southern margin of the Atherton Tableland where watercourses drop off the edges of various layers of flood basalt.

There is a lot of it beside the canopy walkway. The local Sapindaceae are so numerous, I can't keep them all distinguished by memory.

There may be some genetic variation in the shape of the flower panicles of this species, because these at the Mamu walkway are more bunched up than those I am familiar with.

Seen from Crawford's Lookout. Water level is very low for December, due to the El Niño drought.
