I really like this anaglyph of GEB. It works pretty well. (Wear red/cyan glasses.)

I was thinking about what I could do with the Radiohead/Google data that I mentioned earlier and this is the result. Again, it's just the first frame for another little video clip.

You will need red/cyan anaglyph glasses to watch this in actual 3D. (Worth it!)

So far, I have finished about half of the frames for one eye (the original video), so the anaglyph video will take a while.

Say Hello to Thom Yorke's head.

The data comes from Radiohead's music video for "House of Cards", which was – with the help of Google – shot completely with 3D laser scanners instead of cameras. I used Sunflow and a couple of Ruby scripts to visualize the data with tiny globally illuminated spheres. (Have a look at the large version.)

This is the first of 2101 frames and the rendering takes forever, but ultimately, it will be a 70-second video. Maybe I'll add some color and think about camera paths.

Edit: And here it is, in HD and on Vimeo.

Here they are. Fresh 3D prints of my GEB objects (3D, 3Der, 3Dest). Now I just have to find a way to make them hover.

You can order the two separately from Shapeways.

From 3D to 3Der to 3Dest: My first* 3D print. I was hoping for more detail, but the problem is probably the small size (otherwise it would have been way too expensive) combined with the choice of material. The process of getting a 3D print from Shapeways is straightforward and simple though. I am currently trying the next one.

* Well, I had one done a couple of years ago at CCC, but I had made some modeling mistakes and it didn't work out.
