My picture is not altered; it is as straight as photography gets. But
the sign is. And, again, is there really any such thing as an unaltered
photograph? Fort Amherst, Narrows, St. John's harbour.

At a trivia night competition the table next to us were called the
Thumb Tacks ("Sharp as a ..."); thus their headgear. But at our table
we suspected answers were being beamed down to them from a Google
satellite or the like. However, neither we nor they won.

Taken on Fuji 800 Superia film in my Olympus Pen D3 half-frame camera,
and under-exposed by (I think) three stops. The colour of the light
was weird, and the picture was blurry; I stripped some colour out of
the picture and this helped sharpen it a bit.

"Blow Me Down" is a fairly common placename for hills that drop several
hundred feet vertically to the water, at least in northeast North
America, perhaps even everywhere that English sailors sailed in the 17th
and 18th centuries. (Is there a French equivalent? I've seen Crève-coeur
for some similar places. . .maybe that's it.) This Blow Me Down is, by
my guess, about 250 feet (65 m) high. I haven't walked this side-trail
to Blow Me Down yet; the sign is on the trail to Archie's Beach.

On the maps this is called Heart's Ease Beach. But the locals call it
Archie's Beach. Or perhaps "R. Cheese Beach." I suspect the original
name is closer to the local pronunciation. Looking southwest to Ganny Cove Arm.

Flotsam window

Walking on Little Archie's Back Beach we found this window frame washed
up. It had thick glass -- 4 or 5 mm thick -- and I think it probably
was a window in the house of someone's boat. But it was still broken.

Nice sharp lens (F-Zuiko) on the Olympus 35DC. Too bad it is such a
limited (automatic) shutter/aperture system. But for 90% of pictures,
it's excellent. Reala film.

This is a companion picture to the last one I posted. Unlike most of my pictures, these are not manipulated in any way, not even to put a border around them, or sharpen or re- or de-saturate them. But what is an unmanipulated photograph anyway? I don't think there's really such a thing, but in this case, I liked the scan just as it came back from the supermarket! (That's who does my development and most of my scanning.) Again, I like the feel of the focussed and unfocussed parts of this picture, an artefact of the F-Zuiko lens on the Olympus 35DC.
