Pretty on Pills

Monachromatic posted a photo:

I always write about how it is like to be a woman. I think that's one of the main topics I portray as an art student with my work. I don't like sexism, even when it comes out of women. I certainly don't like it when it comes out of a man, especially a man who thinks he's man enough to be calling girls "sluts" because they are taking the birth control pill.

I don't think I have to explain all the reasons why girls start taking the pill. I have been taking it for almost a decade, and is not because I'm hungry for sex, like a certain radio personality wants others to believe. I am not even targeting this person as a political figure, I don't think that you have to belong to a political party to be a chauvinistic person. In fact, if there's such thing as reincarnation, I hope he's born a woman and she's got a cyst rupture so s/he can see how a bitch not taking the birth control pill when you really need it can be!.

I think a man is man enough when they don't say things like Sandra Fluke is a slut for defending out right to get affordable birth control. But also, when they have enough balls to try to understand, and remain empathetic about our issues as hormonal people, and encourage us to fight for our rights. It's when they acknowledge our right to choose what to do. And I think a woman is woman enough to appreciate men as well.

Please, don't listen to these people that are ignorant. Educate each other, girls need to be more open to talk, and guys need to be more open to listen. Women have the right to choose whether they want to have children, or not. I know I have the right to be able to have my damn period and not have to go bankrupt if I get the pill. Women have the right to protect themselves. Support our right to get the birth control pill, and affordable insurance!

This was my speech for Women's day, a little bit early, but I had to say it.

Also, let's do something. Girls- I want you to leave me a note on the picture telling me what issues have you had to face as a woman, that means, PCOS, acne, endometriosis, discrimination, anything you think has to do with being a woman and you need to let it out. Or even what does mean to be a woman to you, whatever you want! I want to read your thoughts.
