SEAT WITH A VIEW

.

Come rain or shine I give to you
Respite and a pleasant view
As tired limbs nestle, I'm not creaking
No praise from you or thanks I'm seeking
Each and every twenty four seven
Cheeks galore I give you heaven
No tender care do I demand
I'm yours to talk to, sit, command

Choose me, use me, don't abuse me
Make me, take me, don't forsake me
Against the long climb, hope I give you
Recuperation, wheezing breath too
Beneath the sun rays shining bright
From sunrise to the dead of night
My splintered body bare and prone
Host to many cheeks unknown

Once a proud oak standing tall
The cuts ran deep, and mighty fall
To ground from lofty height my fate
Was sealed and protests much too late
Blades that cut and wounds so deep
Torn asunder, I could weep
Sixty years or more I stood
And many more if I but could

Conservation, clearing paths
'For the best', don't make me laugh
Reduced to timber for man's need
How my wooden heart still bleeds
Once a king and now the fool
Life at time she can be cruel
Bent and bowed and Southwards facing
Memories and my heart's racing

Through the hurricanes and rain
Hear my cries and feel my pain
My family, if but they could see me
Maybe they would join and free me
I am just a hollow soul
sawdust, shavings, no control
I long for freedom, forest heights
My days are long, but worse the nights

Overweight, the tourists come
Squashed to breaking point, I'm numb
As sadness permeates my limbs
All hope of my salvation dims
Perhaps one day I'll bend and snap
Escape reality, this trap
Until that day I am resigned
Misunderstood and so maligned
