O vulcão dos Capelinhos é reconhecidamente um marco na vulcanologia mundial.
O vulcão manteve-se em actividade por 13 meses, entre 27 de Setembro de 1957 e 24 de Outubro de 1958.
Em resultado da erupção, a área total da ilha (de 171,42 km²) aumentou em cerca de 2,50 km² Actualmente, essa área foi reduzida para cerca de metade devido à natureza pouco consolidada das rochas e à acção erosiva das ondas.

Capelinhos Volcano is recognized as a milestone in volcanology worldwide. The volcano remained active for 13 months, from 27 September 1957 and 24 October 1958. As a result of the eruption, the total area of the island (of 171.42 kilometers ²) increased by about 2.50 km ² Currently, this area was reduced to about half due to the poorly consolidated nature of the rocks and the erosive action of waves.

Lagoa do Fogo (English: Lagoon of Fire) is a crater lake within the Agua de Pau stratovolcano in the center of the island of São Miguel Island in the Azores. The governmental authorities do not allow any modern construction around this lake. This lake is the highest above sea level on São Miguel Island.

A lagoa do Fogo, ocupa a grande caldeira de vulcão adormecido do fogo. Este vulcão dá forma ao grande maciço vulcânico da Serra de Água de Pau, localizado no centro da Ilha de São Miguel. Todas esta zona é rodeado por uma densa e exuberante vegetação endémica.

Esta caldeira vulcânica, tal como o vulcão que lhe deu forma é a mais jovem da Ilha de São Miguel e ter-se-á formado há cerca de 15 000 anos. A sua configuração actual é resultado do último colapso, tido como importante e que ocorreu no topo do vulcão, há aproximadamente 5 mil anos. A última erupção data de 1563.

A sua estrutura é composta por um corpo rectangular, de dois pisos (um dos quais actualmente soterrado), com quatro habitações, e por uma torre central de planta octogonal de 20 metros de altura. Foi construído em alvenaria de pedra rebocada (outrora pintada), excepto as molduras dos vãos, os cunhais e a cornija, que são em cantaria à vista.

Deixou de operar em 29 de Novembro de 1957, em virtude da erupção vulcânica.

His structure consists of a rectangular body, two floors (one of which is currently buried), with four rooms, and a central tower octagonal, 20 feet high. It was built in stone masonry plastered (once painted), except the frames of the openings, the corners and cornice, which are made of stone in sight. Ceased operations on 29 November 1957 because of volcanic eruption.

Desenvolvendo-se em torno do vulcão, com 2351 metros de altitude, que lhe dá o nome, a ilha do Pico tem uma forma oblonga – 42 Km de comprimento e 15,2 de largura – a a superfície total de 447 Km2. Um planalto com cones vulcânicos secundários termina junto do mar em altas falésias enquanto a área mais baixa, a oeste, tem declives moderados.

Spreading around the volcano with 2351 meters of altitude, which gives it its name, the island of Pico has an oblong shape - 42 km long and 15.2 wide - a surface area of 447 km2. A plateau with volcanic cones side ends with the sea in high cliffs while the lower area in the west is gently sloping.

Centro Interpretação dos Capelinhos

O Centro de Interpretação do Vulcão dos Capelinhos na Ilha do Faial, Açores faz parte o antigo Farol. O projecto foi concebido, tendo como intenção manter o espírito pós vulcão daquela área. Assim, o edifício encontra-se submerso nas areias vulcânicas, enterrado até à cota do terreno antes da erupção. No seu interior propõe-se um percurso pela história da erupção do Vulcão dos Capelinhos, começando na própria formação do sistema solar.

The Interpretation Center Capelinhos on Faial Island, Azores is part of the old lighthouse. The project was conceived, with the intention to keep the spirit after the volcano in that area. Thus, the building is submerged in volcanic sand, buried to a height of land before the eruption. Inside it is proposed that covers the history of the eruptive Capelinhos, starting at the very formation of the solar system.

São Tomé and Príncipe, officially the Democratic Republic of São Tomé and Príncipe, is a Portuguese-speaking island nation in the Gulf of Guinea, off the western equatorial coast of Africa.

Ilhéu das Rolas is a small island in São Tomé and Príncipe. The island lies on the equator, off the southern tip of São Tomé Island. The island is home to a small resort.
The main and almost single economic activity is tourism related mainly to the resort. A permanent population of approximately 200 people works directly in tourism.
