This modern building has a strong horizontal orientation and a façade with minimal ornamentation. Its most striking element is a large canopy at its entrance.

It was built in 1950 and comprises ten units. No architect is listed in its documentation, but Ira J. Spoon was the builder.

NOTE: I think the upper story has a screened-in porch.

The Park Plaza is a modern, garden court building constructed during the war years (1944). The building comprises twenty-five units in a U-shape, built around a courtyard. Park Plaza's architect, I.M. Lewis, would go on to design the 850 Whitmore apartment building in the International style, in 1952.

The entrance of the Park Plaza Apartments (built 1944) is evidence of a move away from the Art Deco/Spanish/Tudor Revival style of the 1920s. It is clean, modern and pretty straightforward.

Mass transit in Detroit leaves much to be desired in terms of service. But if your trip begins or ends at the new Rosa Parks Transit Center near Michigan Avenue and Cass, at least you'll receive an aesthetic payoff.

Stevie Wonder is one of two Motown legends to be found on this mural on Grand River Avenue. As with Diana Ross, Stevie's likeness is based on his 1960s sppearance.

The Grand River Creative Corridor is an outdoor gallery of large and small murals with Detroit-based themes. This rendering of Diana Ross is based on her look during the mid-1960s when she was a member of The Supremes.

The Rosvimur is one of several apartment buildings on LaSalle Boulevard designed in the Spanish Colonial style.

This is another Romanesque Revival structure in the Woodbridge neighborhood of Detroit's West Side. it was designed by Almon Clother Varney in 1890 for Abraham S. Kinney, a patternmaker.

I do not know the current function of this Second Empire structure on Trumbull Avenue. It has been fixed up since I photographed it several years ago. From comments from other Flickr members, it was used as a hospital many years ago.
