Brenizer Experiment

This is my first try using the Brenizer method on a real life human. The idea is to get narrow, telephoto-style depth of field on your subject — and great bokeh — and the expansive feel of a wide angle shot.

This image is about 30 images stitched together, and while I do like it — it's really me salvaging the test. The image I was trying to make included the trees along the edges all the way to their tops, making for a beautiful vertical wide angle with some leading lines tracking back to Amy standing in the middle of the frozen channel. Unfortunately, the open space through the middle of the frame and the sparseness of the branches going up to the top of the trees made it impossible for me — or Photoshop — to stitch the whole thing together again.

I'm looking forward to making another run at it soon, the technique lets you do some really beautiful things.

A little experiment with the Brenizer method from a photowalk this morning. Not exactly the depth of field I was going for, but I think I see the appeal of the technique.

My first honest effort at taking an interior HDR. And to up the level of difficulty, I decided to do it at exactly the wrong time of day with huge bright swaths of light cutting through the shot. Sigh. I will try again to get my timing right.

This image is made up of nine shots -- a panorama of three shots, each with three bracketed exposures. I did the HDR work in Photomatix making three composite shots, and then stitched them together using Photoshop's panorama feature. With the exception of not being able to control for the the light slicing across the floor, I'm pretty happy with how it turned out and I learned a ton of things I want to try out next time.

Oh, and this is actually my new office. We renovated a former restaurant and turned it into office space for our growing startup. Awesome office? Just one of the perks of being a small-upstart.

Every fall, at least one Araneus diadematus manages to grow up and spin a beautiful web on our front porch. I was lucky enough to catch this one before she had time to skitter back into the bushes for the rest of the rainy morning.

These beautiful little -- and I mean little, the tallest is probably less than half-an-inch tall -- mushrooms were a brilliant shade of orange and nearly buried in a very dense swamp. I'd never seen anything like them. They're also eluding my identification skills. Hygrophorus squamulosus maybe?

Playing with some macro shots and a beautiful Sedum telephium ("Autumn Joy") that's just starting to bloom in my backyard. Also learned that there are a lot of different kinds of sedum in the world.
