Awakened Female Cecropia Moth

being able to experience this moth from being a little egg to a beautiful caterpillar and then letting it rest in the cocoon all winter until it awakened this summer was nothing short of magical. This is a female. Within one night of her emergence, a male joined her. It was oh, so sweet.

Short-eared Owl in flight

I was THRILLED to have located this short-eared owl at a park near my home in Cincinnati. I just so happened to have spooked it up from the tall grasses along one of the ponds. I went back to the park numerous times this winter in search of the owl and each time I was blessed to have been able to find it.

On one particular visit, I was totally blown away as I noticed not one, but a pair of owls soaring around, frolicking together! JOY JOY JOY!

Balluminaria is an annual event held in Eden Park up in the neighborhood of Mount Adams in Cincinnati, OH. It's a great way to have some fun before all of the hub-bub of the winter holidays. One year Reflection Pond played a trick on us and froze solid! Hence, there was no real reflection to be had and a blustery cold night it was.
