My most "interesting" photo on Flickr since I joined in 2006 is this image:

I was shooting a senior portrait of a girl. I have never been all that happy with the image, but the experiment of yellow gelling a flash and using it to fake sunlight stuck with me. Six years later I found myself in a really cool sunflower field, once again shooting a portrait of a girl. And once again I found myself cursing the gray sky and lack of light.

It was time again for my fake yellow sun flash. With the same SB800 flash behind her, full-blast, with the same #12 Straw Yellow gel (from the MWPE pack) to simulate the sun, I took the shot you see her with a real sunflower this time.

They got me a little earlier than the predictions. Well played, Mayans, well played. Totally didn't see it coming two weeks early.

Light: SB900 through umbrella camera left. SB800 bare to camera right side on to subject. SB800 behind splashing on the banyan tree. Sun poking through the tree lighting up the back of the legs.
