Sunset at Lilstock in Somerset, with the remains of wooden posts from the old pier being swallowed up by the incoming tide. Boats used to bring lyme for the local kilns but that was many years ago ! The posts remind me of dinosaur teeth sticking up from in between the rocks and the lines of teeth reseemble that of a jawbone.

Le Pouldu Port

Fishing port of Le Pouldu southern Brittany at sunrise. This place holds some special memories as it is a small typically French fishing port that has not yet been overrun by tourists. I was able to compose this shot just as the sun rose, having sheltered behind a moored boat to protect both myself and the tripod from the wind. Just opposite this shot is a cafe that sells fantastic french coffee, my only problem was that I had another 3 hours to wait until it opened... perhaps I should just take a flask next time !

Old Wooden Lighthouse

Sunset at probably one of the most overshot viewpoints on the North Somerset coast near Burnham-on-sea. The old wooden lighthouse stands on 10m wooden stilits to lift it above the high tides that are common in this area. They are actually the highest in Europe and catch many a beach comber out ! The lighthouse is still functional and shines a navigation light seaward to the ships that pass through the night. I think it is quite rare to find a wooden lighthouse nowadays and to capture it with such vivd colours was a real bonus.

Jurassic Coast

This image was taken on the jurassic coastline at Kilve in Somerset. This is a particularly dramatic location with rocky outcrops and ledges of basalt rock strewn with fossils.

It also boasts one of the highest tides in the world of over 10m. The water rushes in from all sides and can completely surround you within minutes which makes it particularly interesting when taking post-sunset shots in the dark !

Shot wide-angle with a neutral density filter to slow down the water movement into a blurry, milky form. This is probably one of my favourite seascape images that I have ever taken.

Orange Glow

A post-sunset shot of Kilve beach, Somerset taken a few weeks ago. The warm orange glow was just like a gas-fire being turned off very slowly, and I managed to catch it just as the glow was reflecting off the the waves as they lapped the rocky shore. It was a very calm and peaceful night and for once I didn't have to worry about too much spray covering my lens !
