ID Help on Woodpecker

I was walking on the trail, and I then noticed this woodpecker, very far away, and very high in this tree, and noticed this bird, and was wondering if this could be a Nuttall's Woodpecker. I know it is a pretty bad photo, since It was taken from far away. In the larger version it looks a little better. I can see that it has black and white back, and a red crown on its head. It was taken in Northern California, on March 31, 2013

Dark morph Swainson's Hawk

I was at the San Joaquin River NWR, the other day in Northern California, when I was walking and I looked up and noticed this very dark hawk flying over, and I have not seen a hawk this dark fly over me before. Thanks everyone for your input. This is the first time I have seen the dark morph of the Swainson's Hawk. I am glad I got to see one, since I have only seen the lighter color variety before. It was taken on March 31, 2013

I was in a low marshy area of Clifton Court Forebay, right near the Delta, and then I saw a bird flying above me, it turned out to be this Northern Harrier, they are such a interesting and fascinating bird of prey.

A Female Common Merganser

I was biking around the Clifton Court Forebay and noticed this Merganser swimming away from the shore, It turned out to be a Female Common Merganser, I thought it was a nice looking bird, it was grooming itself but then it entered the water and started going farther into the Clifton Court Forebay, Thanks to all who gave great ID and comments. It was taken in Alameda County, California

American White Pelican

I was at the Clifton Court Forebay, and I noticed this group of White Pelicans flying around, and was able to photo this lone Pelican. They are very impressive sized birds. It was taken in Alameda County, California on March 10th 2013

Pair of Bufflehead

I was at the Clifton Court Forebay, I was watching a pair of Bufflehead that were very far from shore. It is quite amazing how different the two look one is mostly black and the male is black and white, a very nice looking duck. It was taken March 10, 2013

Cormorant up high

When I was on the pier at the regional shoreline I looked up and noticed this Cormorant sitting on this wheel ontop of what looked like a crane.

Red Tailed Hawk, I see you

I noticed this Red Tail Hawk, landed on a power pole, I was at the Clifton Court Forebay, I noticed it and I took this photo right before it decided to fly off. I was riding around the trail when I noticed it, the wingspan was quite impressive. It was taken on September 30,2012 in Northern California (Buteo jamaicensis)

Great Egret Walking

Here I saw a nice great egret walking down the beach/shoreline in a elegent pose. It was in the Hayward Shoreline marsh right on the shore of the Bay. It was taken September 23, 2012 (Ardea alba)

I saw this snowy egret preening its feathers and thought the position of the head looks like it was turned and looking up. taken at the hayward bay shoreline (Egretta thula)

Black-bellied Plover

I saw this bird when I was walking on the shoreline on the Hayward Bay Marsh Shoreline he was wading through some mud before it empties into the bay, it was during low tide when all these birds were feeding and I noticed this one that stood out and I dont know what it is.

These two birds, were at the top of a tree, it was located at a nwr, in northern California, its is mostly open area, but on the other side is a huge standing of trees near a river, on one side is the tree line with the river and on the other side was a wide open seasonal wetland prarie. It was taken April 15, 2012 in Northern California. I now the picture is not the best I have heard a couple peoples repsonses some said hairy,some said downy, just want a best guess

Barn Swallow

Im pretty sure this is a Barn Swallow, but i found out where i took the photo they also have cliff swallows so im now not quite sure,my first instict told me it was a Barn Swallow, It was taken at the Hayward Bay Interpretive Center, in Northern California. It just briefly landed on the wooden colum and stayed for a minute before flying off its blue and orange. It was taken June 30, 2012. I was at a building near a marsh in the bay area.
