I was walking on the trail, and I then noticed this woodpecker, very far away, and very high in this tree, and noticed this bird, and was wondering if this could be a Nuttall's Woodpecker. I know it is a pretty bad photo, since It was taken from far away. In the larger version it looks a little better. I can see that it has black and white back, and a red crown on its head. It was taken in Northern California, on March 31, 2013

I was at the San Joaquin River NWR, the other day in Northern California, when I was walking and I looked up and noticed this very dark hawk flying over, and I have not seen a hawk this dark fly over me before. Thanks everyone for your input. This is the first time I have seen the dark morph of the Swainson's Hawk. I am glad I got to see one, since I have only seen the lighter color variety before.
