Elephant Rock State Park - Pools

One of the most curious geologic formations in Missouri is found at Elephant Rocks State Park. Giant boulders of 1.5 billion-year-old granite stand end-to-end like a train of circus elephants. The formation of this extraordinary herd of elephants began during the Precambrian era about 1.5 billion years ago. The distinctive granite is known as "Missouri Red." In my opinion, its really more pink than red. These are pools that have, over the centuries, carved themselves into the granite.

Truck outside the Venice Cafe in downtown St. Louis. If you have never been to the Venice Cafe, then you should. You'll never forget it.

Union Station Grand Hall HDRI

This is a photo of the Grand Hall at St. Louis Union Station. Constructed at a cost of $6.5 million, St. Louis Union Station opened on September 1, 1894. At one point in time it was the world's largest and busiest railroad terminal. The Grand Hall's six-story, 65-foot barrel-vaulted ceiling is filled with frescoes, bas-reliefs, gilt and stained glass. It is currently a Hyatt Hotel. Much of the interior has been restored to its original grandeur.

This photo was taken with a Nikon D200 using a 14-24mm f/2.8 Nikkor lens on a Gitzo tripod. This is a High Dynamic Range (HDR) image processed through Photomatix from a single RAW/NEF capture, with minor adjustments made in Capture NX.
