The snow berms in Anchorage, in this snowiest of winters and this gradual spring, have taken on three strange shapes. This is one of those shapes--brown shelves of snow that look like geological layers out of which this tree pushes its way to light.

I love how the snow berms in Anchorage, in this snowiest of winters and this gradual spring, have taken on three strange shapes. This is one of them: the scalloped shelves of brown with white on top, the scales of ice that protude from a body fat with accumulated snow and dirt. And here, this fire hydrant defiantly pokes its way through.

Photos from last summer in MN that I just found again.

I was being a bit of a voyeur, I know, but I was so curious about this young couple who appeared to be breaking up. I tried to capture that sad goodbye, in which the young man still wanted to hug and work things out but the young woman was sad but through trying. He eventually walked away with no words.

Holga photo outside where my friend Clare Robbins lives with her partner, E in E's parents' house while her parents have gone back to the home country of México. Suburban LA--suburban CA, really--is not just for white flight anymore. I loved her little home with the orange tree in the backyard.
