Not as over-the-top as the '59, the '60 Cadillac in some peoples' opinion is a better-looking car.

The front is equally impressive - concave grille, divided lights, 'flying' hood and front 'wings', teardropped wheel openings. I'd buy this car.

There's something about the cars of 1960. Very sleek shapes. Fins evolving from airplane tailfins to science-fiction knifeblades.

One doesn't see too many of these in California. Beautiful car, though - though it's interesting that a very 1940s look was still prevalent in Sweden this late.

1960 Berkeley B-95. Factory race car. $38,000. One of twelve left-hand drive examples built, the seller claimed; was in the Petersen Museum.

1960 Continental Mark V

The 1960 Continental Mark V was the last gasp of Continental as a separate brand. Started in '56 with the stellar Continental Mark II, the ride of Elvis and Sinatra and the Shah of Iran, and then pruned by the bean-counters to just the top-of-the-line Lincoln in '58.

1958's Lincoln and Continental was the biggest, finniest, most bechromed beast of that decade of automotive excess - larger and more outrageous even than the Cadillacs of those years. The Lincolns sold poorly; perhaps they were just too odd-looking, or too big.

By '60 the styling was toned down a little, into this quite pleasing result. The concave rear became a feature of quite a few Ford, Mercury and Lincoln cars over the next decade or so.

Note the reverse-sloped, power 'breezeway' window.

And here's the front, with the odd inward-slanting headlamp clusters and the four 'spears' behind the front wheels. Note the rubber behind the tips of the bullets.

I have to say $8900 is a bit steep.

Love the sideways fins and the jet-exhaust taillights. Cars in 1960 looked like rocketships.
