The only entrance to Dover school now is a tricky one-I don't recommend it-as it requires the belief that a 2" by 6" decayed plank will support you over a 12' foot drop.I believed it would,but in the near future????

Well known by local abandonment hunters and infinitely cool.When I first drove by this area in Febuary,the old school was easily visible from the road,now it is buried and almost impossible to access.
Dover Grade School was built in the 1920's upon the site of Dover Academy,a girls school that closed in 1887,and burned to the ground in 1901.This structure was a private residence in later years,and is in horrendous condition,inside and out...

Last graduating class was 1963 and was last occuppied in the mid '80s(Thanks Ana!)....

A tragedy in the making...This fine old mansion,built in 1870,is being left to go to ruin.It is now the home of a homeless person and is in deplorable condition on the inside.The farmstead around it,
is full of old machinery being left to waste.One thing the owners took time to do:the place is full of "no tresspassing" signs,so I went no further than the road.As least I,and the other explorers before me that have seen and photographed this place,would have done something to preserve its legacy...

The condition of the old depot and Burlington Northern caboose are pretty bad-they have both been ransacked repeatedly,and the structural integrity of both are becoming circumspect.I'm sure the town has plans to make some kind tourist attraction out of this area,but they need to do it soon...

The old depot in LaMoille nows sits isolated awaiting its final fate.This area used to full of trackage,mills,and lumberyards.But like many small rural towns,these businesses dried and closed many years ago,and their shells became a blight.But the isolation of this area now,seems a little un-settling now,albeit a less un-sightly one...

As bad as this area looks,the staircase was actually structurally sound,or,at least it seemed like it! Directly to the right(why didn't I get that shot?)is a large hole in the wall which reveals the burned out section below....

A stack of Britannicas' didn't fare too badly at The Charhouse.The house was fairly empty,leading me to believe that it was abandoned at the time of the fire....The encyclopedia on the floor is turned to "firefighting"-maybe someone could have used a little knowledge...

A look into the chaos of a collapsed house outside of Manilius,IL. This one has been decaying for as long as I can remember,and finally collapsed within the last 2 years.Was a beautiful old house in its heyday....a long,long time ago...

The wife and I drove up to Galena and came across this right off beautiful Rte. 20 in NW IL. After climbing thru the window,I quickly recognized this stuffed,badly decayed,but very interesting abandonment.The yard around the house is full of a scrapper's fortune in metal,making this an interesting stop on the way to your Galena weekend....

The student lockers in the basement of New Bedford grade school have been empty for a long time...The school served as the villages' fire department for many tears after it was closed.

New Bedford grade school was closed in the '50s due to consolidation.According to the new owner(who walked up while I was walking around shooting),after closure,the east wall was knocked out to install a garage door which housed the town's lone fire truck for many years.Later the basement was used as a residence,till the building was put up for sale several years ago.He and his son plan on remodeling the old school as a residence-it is still structurally sound.Interestingly,this gentleman is helping in the reworking of the old Langley grain elevator on route 34 as a "party" spot....

The lady of First Premium farm was a skilled pianist and organist.She received a special plaque from her church in 1979 for her years of service.There are numerous songbooks and music hymnals for weddings and funerals scattered around this room that contained two pianos.I'm positive her skills are still in good use,in a much better place than the decayed remains if this house...
