Not sure what to make of this new Flickr layout. Much harder to control what people see and how they navigate. Sets seem virtually lost. Will be interesting to see how this affects our followings. Mine has been steadily declining over the past year, not sure if this will help or hurt... Thoughts?

Stagnation. Ruts. Lack of direction. Mediocrity. Things that most if not all artists go through at some point. Some come through it better off than before and for others it is a "career killer". Well, I've been coming to the conclusion that my photography in the past year or so has stagnated in the realm of mediocre or worse. When you are stagnant, your followers and buyers get bored, take notice and go elsewhere. You get bored too. Sure, all of these penguin pictures are "nice", but they are mediocre and not at the level that my work should be at for the time I have invested. I know it and the responses over the past months have confirmed that. My goal is to always produce new images that I am both more and more satisfied with and which people respond more and more favorably to.

So the question is, if you have been through a period of stagnation, mediocrity or lack of direction with your photography or photographic career, how have you dealt with it? I think this is a useful dialogue for all of us. To be successful, I think we need to be constantly growing and re-inventing ourselves.

Springtime balsamroot and lupine blooms, Rowena Crest, Columbia River Gorge, Oregon.

A 5-exposure blend for depth-of-field and dynamic range control. Merged with CS5 photomerge. Why I didn't discover photomerge beforehand for focus-stacking is beyond me. It was much easier this time around.

Today's actual post is a long exposure of Iguazu Falls. Polarizer + ND 64x + Lee 3-stop reverse ND. As the center of the waterfall was the brightest and the cliff to the left was dark, the reverse seemed like a good idea.
